Marietta Students Win Authors Competition

Eleven Marietta City Schools students were named system winners of the 2011-2012 Young Georgia Authors Competition.

Eleven students were named system winners of the 2011-2012 Young Georgia Authors Competition.

“Congratulations to all the students competing in this year’s writing contest. Their entries were well-written, organized, and enjoyable to read,” said Dr. Debra McCracken, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, in a press release.

Marietta City School 2011-2012 Young Georgia Authors winners include:

  • Caleb Gayner, Sawyer Road Elementary, First grade
  • Julia DePasquale, , Second grade
  • Kenia Garcia, , Third grade
  • Morgan Plog, , Fourth grade
  • Junmoke James, , Fifth grade
  • Akash Prasad,
  • Lana Cross, , Seventh grade
  • Anna Fenton, , Eighth grade
  • Shanell Coleman, , Tenth grade
  • Kylie Guckian, , Eleventh grade

The Georgia Department of Education selects from among system winners for the Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) district competition that includes entries from other area school systems. RESA district winners advance to the statewide competition.
