Marietta Woman to Travel to Spain as Fulbright Fellow

The Spelman College graduate was selected to travel to Valencia, Spain as a Fulbright Fellow and will research the literature of the Equatorial Guinea natives, the lone Spanish colonized country in Africa.

Marietta's LaTasha Oaks was awarded the Fulbright Fellowship in Valencia, Spain for 2012 from Spelman College.

The Spelman College alumna graduated magna cum laude from Spelman in 2011 with a degree in Spanish, while on a pre-med track. Oaks was selected to travel to Valencia, Spain as a Fulbright Fellow.

As a firm believer in in-depth cultural learning, Oaks will research the literature of the Equatorial Guinea natives, the lone Spanish colonized country in Africa, while in Spain.

Oaks is an aspiring medical doctor, interested in becoming an obstetrician/gynecologist, who desires to combine languages and healthcare to enhance patient care.

Ultimately, Oaks would like to work with Doctors Without Borders, an international medical humanitarian organization committed to bringing quality medical care to those in need.

In 2011, Spelman tied for seventh as a top-producing bachelor's degree institution for Fulbright students with five winners, all of whom are English language teaching assistants in Vietnam, Macau, Korea, Venezuela and Spain.
