MCS Students Place Second in Georgia 2013 School Bus Safety Poster Contest

Rachel Young, of Sawyer Road Elementary, placed second in Division II (Grades 3-5). Courtney Hicks, of Marietta Middle School, placed second in Division IV (Special Education).

Two Marietta City Schools (MCS) students recently placed second for state-level honors in the 2013 Georgia School Bus Safety Poster contest.

, of Sawyer Road Elementary, placed second in Division II (Grades 3-5). Courtney Hicks, of Marietta Middle School, placed second in Division IV (Special Education).

Over the last two years, five MCS students have placed among the top three at the state level. 

Four MCS students also placed fist for district-level honors: 

  • Division I (Kindergarten - 2nd grade): Arbey Segura Salgado, Park Street Elementary; 
  • Division II (Grades 3 - 5): Rachel Young, Sawyer Road Elementary; 
  • Division III (Grades 6 - 8): Natalie Cross, Marietta Middle School; 
  • Division IV (Special Education): Courtney Hicks, Marietta Middle School.

The 2013 Bus Safety Poster contest theme was “At my Stop - You Stop!” Posters submitted for the contest had to be original in theme and correct in the safety concept. Judging criteria included relation to school bus safety practices, originality, artwork, execution and visual impact.

  • 2nd place: Dejiah Thomas, Sawyer Road Elementary
  • 3rd place: Jennifer Maganda, Sawyer Road Elementary
Division III (Grades 6 - 8)
  • 2nd place: Melissa Lorenzo, Marietta Middle School
  • 3rd place: Julia Kiklica, Marietta Middle School
Division IV (Special Education)
  • 2nd place: Tayvon Sanders, Marietta Middle School
  • 3rd place: Hayden Dixon, Marietta Middle School
