David DuBose, a music teacher at Marietta High School (MHS), Director of Bands and MHS Arts Department Chair, and the Marietta City Schools’ Teacher of the Year for 2012-13, was named runner-up for 2014 Georgia Teacher of the Year honor.

The state winner was announced Friday, May 3, at the Georgia Teacher of the Year banquet at the Georgia International Convention Center.

“As state runner-up, David will serve as a backup to the state Teacher of the Year in case she is not able to complete her responsibilities,” said Emily Lembeck, Marietta City Schools Superintendent. “Come the new school year, David will assume responsibilities for directing the day-to-day operations of the new fine arts auditorium at Marietta High School.”

“David was selected as a state finalist, on the strength of his experience and expertise,” said MHS principal Leigh Colburn. “As David’s current administrator, I have firsthand knowledge of his effectiveness within the classroom, as well as, his dedication to student achievement and the improvement of education. He represents our faculty with distinction, and given the opportunity, he would well represent our state.”

His desire to teach, lead, influence and encourage others to succeed came from his experiences as an Eagle Scout and as a drum major with the marching band in high school and college.
