MHS SAT Scores Above State, Below National

Marietta High School students' SAT scores outpaced the Georgia total by 37 points but were 18 points below the national total. The performance gap between African-American and Caucasian students decreased.

students' combined average scores on the 2011 SAT outpaced the Georgia total in Critical Reading, Mathematics and Writing by 37 points at 1482.

MHS scores were 18 points below the national total of 1500.

The 2011 SAT results reflect the performance of 274 MHS seniors tested through June and 257 seniors tested through March, up from 227 in 2010.

“Our average SAT score indicates continued progress as we once again exceeded the state in all critical test areas, notably by 23 points in Mathematics," said Dr. Emily Lembeck, Marietta City Schools superintendent, in a press release.

Beginning in 2011, scores on the SAT include students tested through June of their senior year. In previous years, scores included students tested through March of their senior year.

Both African-American and Caucasian students at Marietta High School scored above students in their respective demographic groups at the state and national levels, the release said.

The performance gap, the difference in achievement scores between African-American and Caucasian students, decreased by 68 points to 267.
