Osborne Students Offer Free Help Filing Taxes

The Osborne High School Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Center helped prepare more than 200 tax returns in 2011.

The April 17 tax deadline can be a little less stressful with free assistance from the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Center.

In 2011, the Osborne High center helped prepare more than 200 tax returns, yielding refunds totaling over $200,000.

The tax progam launched about 11 years ago to help lower-paid individuals file their taxes.

Grant funds from the Cobb Schools Foundation and the Atlanta Community Food Bank are helping to support the Income Tax Assistance Center.

Appointments are required. Call 404-372-8421 to schedule. The center is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday through April 17 from noon to 3 p.m. and Saturday Feb. 25 and March 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Spanish translation is available.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Center will conduct a special open house for the community Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m.
