Rebuilds Approved for Brumby, Mountain View Schools

This month, the Cobb County School Board chose Mountain View Elementary and Brumby Elementary as the two elementary schools to be rebuilt using newly collected Cobb Education SPLOST IV funds. 

On the new SPLOST IV project list are replacements for the two East Cobb schools, costing $23 million each.

Approximately 40 parents, residents, teachers and students attended the Feb. 3 meeting to encourage board members to choose their school to be rebuilt.

The recommendation to spend $9.4 million to purchase 35 acres on Terrell Mill Road was approved by the board by a 7-0 vote.

The board voted unanimously to rebuild Brumby Elementary off of Powers Ferry Road, and voted 6-1 to rebuild Mountain View Elementary off Sandy Plains Road in Marietta. Board member David Morgan voted against.

Parents have long complained the Mountain View building poses health and safety problems.

Said District 3 Commissioner JoAnn Birrell in a newsletter to her constituents, “I'd like to give a shout out to Mountain View faculty and staff, parents and foundation and the team of moms that made this happen. Congratulations to all those who worked to see Mountain View and Brumby Elementary rebuilt.”
