Marietta School Employees Get Bonus

The of the voted 7-0 Tuesday to award all eligible employees a special one-time payment equal to 1 percent on their base (state and local) salary.

The compensation will be paid in the October payroll. The estimated one-time cost to the school district is $420,000 to $450,000.

β€œFor some time now, the board has wanted to extend to employees some type of compensation relief," , the Marietta City Schools superintendent, said in a press release.

"The board realizes that over the last three years school employees have continued to add out-of-pocket support for students and their classrooms and have increased responsibilities related to integration of technology for student learning."

The implementation of a new student information system (Aspen) and the rollout of the new Georgia Common Core Curriculum also have added demands.

To qualify for the special payment, eligible Marietta City Schools employees must have been actively employed on May 31, have been continuously employed through Oct. 1, and have earned a satisfactory evaluation for the period of July 1, 2010, through May 31, 2011.

All eligible employees, with the exception of the superintendent, will get the bonus.
