School Board Member Eagle Not Seeking Re-Election

After nearly four years of service, the Post 1 representative has chosen not to put her name on the ballot in the upcoming elections.

By Lynnda Eagle

For the past 3 1/2 years, I have had the privilege of serving the students, educators and community as a member of the Cobb County School Board. I want to thank everyone for their support and involvement in our schools during these difficult times.

It has been my primary goal to be available, to listen and to offer my support back to you. However, after a great deal of thought and consulting with my family, I have decided not to seek re-election.

As a former educator, serving on the school board has certainly offered me a different perspective on how difficult decisions are made during challenging budget times.

I appreciate the passion of our community, those within the school family and those in the greater community of taxpayers and citizens, as well as what they have brought to the board. Though the issues we faced for the past four years were not always easy to address, I always tried to be open and willing to listen to all.

Post 1 currently represents four high schools and their feeder elementary and middle schools: Allatoona, , Kennesaw Mountain and . Due to the reapportionment changes, beginning in January 2013, Post 1 will no longer represent Hillgrove or Harrison and those elementary and middle school feeder patterns. These two high schools and feeder schools will become a part of Post 7 beginning in 2013.

It has been my pleasure supporting all of the schools in Cobb County through my votes for new schools and capital projects. I will especially miss the relationships that I have forged with the schools over the years in Post 1.

I know that I have had great support from Post 1 teachers, administrators, parents and community members, and I sincerely offer my gratitude.

During my term, which included serving one year as both chair and vice chair, I am proud of the efforts we made in making several positive changes and implementing key efforts.

We brought the SPLOST project management in-house, which I continue to support as a very positive move, giving the district a stronger position of management and fiscal oversight.

We and other much-needed improvements there. In fulfilling one of the most important roles any board experiences, we efficiently and effectively went through the search process and .

Thanks to the voters of Cobb County, we were able to use SPLOST funds to complete several critically needed capital projects, like and the key improvements to Wheeler High School, among others.

We worked to develop a strategic plan, and I continue to stress this as a personal passion, with hopes of leaving a vision for the education of Cobb County's students and a guide to further success.

, graduations upon us and approximately six more months of service, I will continue to be involved in the schools I represent in Post 1. I look forward to providing the same customer service to those constituents I represent until the end of my service on December 31.

Best of luck to . Serving on a school board is not for the weak of heart, but for me it was something I did 'from' the heart.

Thank you for the opportunity.

Ms. Eagle is a class act. Through the years, she has always replied to e-mails (whether you are in her post or not), which is more than I can say for my current board rep. I've also enjoyed seeing her at various events in the county. She's been extremely supportive of PTA. There are not enough board representatives like her. We'll miss you, Ms. Eagle.

Mic, I believe you meant to thank her for everything she DID to our community. Ms. Eagle knew a lot of information was going to come out about her which would have shown the real Crowder-Eagle.
