Southern Poly Students Rally to 'Save SPSU' [Video]

Students as well as faculty members gathered on campus Monday night to voice their opposition to a proposal to merge their school with Kennesaw State University.

In the wake of last week's news that Kennesaw State University and Southern Polytechnic State University were set to merge by 2015, SPSU students held an on-campus rally Monday to voice their disapproval over the plan.

Several students and faculty members spoke during the event. Those who came to hear the speakers walked on sidewalks adorned with messages such as "#savespsu".

See the attached videos for highlights from Monday's rally.

Opponents of the merger have taken to several online outlets to show their support for Southern Poly remaining a separate entity. As of late Monday night, a petition on change.org titled “University System of Georgia- Board of Regents: Stop Kennesaw State from merging with Southern Polytechnic State” had 4,750 supporters, while a Facebook page called “Keep SPSU and KSU Separate” had nearly 3,400 likes. On Twitter, @KeepSPSUTrue had 140 followers.
