Marietta City Schools (MCS) has released a new Title I informational video online.

The video highlights Marietta Reads! created as part of an initiative to improve literacy throughout the Marietta City school district and community.

Title One is a part of the “Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965”, a  federal program that provides funds to develop supplemental instruction and resources for students who may be at risk of failing Georgia’s math or reading requirements.

Marietta Reads! has been invaluable in helping to increase student literacy by making reading a fun activity for students,” said Dr. Adria Griffin, MCS Director, State and Federal Programs. “While Marietta Reads! is not funded by Title I, it is a strong literacy initiative in our community and directly supports our district’s Title I program.”

“This new video should make it easy for parents and community members to understand what supplemental resources Title I funds provide to our Title I schools, and to gain a better understanding of this important federal program. We purposefully included the highly recognizable Marietta Reads! mascot in the video to make it entertaining to watch as well,” Griffin said.

Title One funding allows Marietta City Schools to provide supplemental instructional materials and technology to help students meet or exceed state standards, before school, after school and Saturday instructional tutoring, liaisons to encourage parental involvement, interpreters for parents who speak a language other than English, flexibility in how our teacher resources are allocated, and professional development for all staff.
