West Side, Sawyer Road Random Drawing Scheduled

The random drawings determine student placement for position on a waiting list for the 2012-2013 school year

will hold Choice Academies random drawings for and wait lists, Thursday, Feb. 16, at 5 p.m.

The random drawings, at the , 250 Howard St. in Marietta, determine student placement for position on a waiting list for the 2012-2013 school year. Applicants do not have to be present in order to be included in the drawing.

“Our random drawing selection process ensures equity and fairness of wait list positions whenever Choice Academies enrollment requests exceed school or grade level capacities,” said Dayton Hibbs, MCS Assistant Superintendent Operations, Technology and Assessment, in a press release “Applicants not selected for open seats may choose to go on a wait list. Wait lists are viable through the initial days of the 2012-2013 school year.”

Each Choice Academies application has assigned a unique alphanumeric identifier. The random drawing utilizes a bingo-style rotary cage containing alphanumeric balls.

A tally sheet tracks each corresponding applicant’s name that matches with the unique alphanumeric identifier on the Choice application, in the order in which matching balls are randomly drawn. The order in which the applicant’s number is drawn determines student placements and wait list positions for available Choice seats at each school.
