Southern Museum to Offer 2013 Summer Camps

The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History, located in nearby Kennesaw, will offer exciting summer camp programs in June.

The Southern Museum of Civil War & Locomotive History, located at 2829 Cherokee Street in downtown Kennesaw, will offer exciting summer camp programs in June. Camps will be interactive, allowing participants to use their imagination and creativity while discovering railroads, the Civil War and local history.

There are two camp options to choose from:

Working on the Railroad Camp for ages 5-8, June 10–14, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Put your engineer hats on and discover the fun of working on the railroad.  Campers will learn what railroad workers do through games, crafts, hands-on activities, and role-playing.  Explore the museum’s exhibits, design a railroad company, and assemble and run a model railroad.  All aboard!

Museum Confidential: Revealing the Past Campfor ages 9-12, June 24–28, 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

What happens behind the scenes at a Smithsonian-affiliated museum?  Join us at the Southern Museum and find out.

Campers will be immersed in the work of the curators, archivists, and exhibit designers who bring history alive for people to experience.  Learn about Civil War, railroad, and local history while exploring artifacts and participating in hands-on activities. The week will culminate in a camp exhibit to be displayed at the museum.

The registration fee is $100 for members and $125 for nonmembers. Space is limited, so register now.
