Marietta Boys Take to Road for First Round B-Ball Championship

Marietta High School varsity boy squads match against Peachtree Ridge in Suwanee tops The 5 Things today.

1. The varsity boys squad take to the road for the first round of the Georgia High School Basketball Championships where they will face Peachtree Ridge High School.  The game begins at 4 p.m. at Peachtree Ridge, 1555 Old Peachtree Road Northwest, Suwanee. Go Blue Devils!

 2. The Cobb Symphony Orchestra holds its Second Annual Noteworthy 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m. today at , 1171 Whitlock Ave. The orchestra announced the race is for everyone no matter if you "run allegro or walk andante, you won't fall flat." 3. "Sweet & Savory Saturday" returns to the Marietta Museum of History today and will be a Marietta mainstay for the last weekend of each month through November. Today's event is in conjunction with the museum's "Y'all Come Eat" exhibit, so expect local chefs, restaurants and vendors to be there to offer a taste of the South. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

4. Are you ready for some football? The National Developmental Football League prepares for its 2011 season with a Kickoff Classic featuring three minor league games. The event begins at noon at Osborne High School with the Alabama Bengals taking on the Marietta Hitmen, followed by the Alabama Hawks versus Alabama Red Devils at 3 p.m. and Alabama Avengers against the Atlanta Rattlers at 6 p.m.

Tickets will be $5 for adults and $2.50 for seniors and kids 10 and under.

5. Come visit Marietta Patch at Parent Palooza at the Cobb Galleria from 10 a.m. to noon this morning! Parents of infants, toddlers, kids and teens will find hundreds of useful products and services at this parenting expo. Take part in the family rock band competition and win giveaways and prizes, including some cool Patch stuff.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
