Marietta Heads into Playoffs with Win

The Blue Devils will host Centennial in the first round.

After last week against , 42-14, the Blue Devils bounced back at home. They smothered the Warriors’ offense while being efficient on offense behind sophomore quarterback Jordan Mathis, filling in for injured starter Anthony Jennings, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.

The game had no effect on Marietta’s seeding in the Georgia High School Association’s AAAAA playoffs but put the Blue Devils back on track after Walton ended their four-game winning streak.

Marietta ended the season 5-5 overall and 5-1 in 5-AAAAA.

As the No. 2 seed in 5-AAAAA, Marietta will be home for the first round of the playoffs against the third seed from Region 6-AAAAA, (5-5, 4-2).

All five of Marietta’s losses were to playoff teams, including three—Walton, and —to region champions. Another loss came to , which went 9-1 and spent several weeks as the top-ranked team in the state.

The combined record of the teams that beat Marietta is 45-5. By comparison, the teams that beat Centennial went a combined 36-14.
