Marietta, Osborne Chase Hoops Dreams

Both schools earn berths in the state tournaments for girls and boys.

Mariettans have a lot to root for next weekend in the opening round of the Georgia High School Association basketball playoffs.

The boys and girls teams from both Marietta and Osborne earned postseason spots.

On Friday night, the Marietta girls will be home against Roswell, and the Osborne girls will host Redan.

The Lady Blue Devils are the No. 2 seed from Region 5-AAAAA, and if they knock off Roswell, Region 6-AAAAA's third seed, they'll play Feb. 28 either at Norcross or at home against Archer in the second round of the AAAAA playoffs.

If the Lady Cardinals, the champions of Region 5-AAAA, win their opener in the AAAA playoffs, they will be home again the following Tuesday against either Rome or Flowery Branch. The quarterfinals would be next March 2 at the University of West Georgia.

Both of the boys teams will open the playoffs on the road Saturday.

Marietta, which finished third in the Region 5-AAAAA tournament after losing 64-57 to Lassiter on Friday night, will travel to Roswell to play Region 6-AAAAA's second seed, Centennial.

The winner will be home against Norcross or on the road against Berkmar in the second round of the AAAAA tournament Feb. 29.

In the AAAA tournament, Osborne is Region 5-AAAA's third seed and opens at Southwest DeKalb, Region 6-AAAA's second seed.

If the Cardinals win, they'll play Feb. 29 at Cedar Shoals in Athens or at home against Sequoyah.
