World Movie Premiere, Music on Marietta Square, Art Walk

The world movie premiere of Evolution Creek at the Strand Theatre, music around the Square and the First Friday Art Walk—take a look at the fun happenings on Marietta Square this weekend.

1. It's time for the world movie premiere of Evolution Creek, Thursday at 7 p.m. The Strand Theatre will present the PG-13 film about a group of college friends who go on an exotic island vacation and get caught in a war between the power of evolution and the powers of creation.

Evolution Creek is an "action packed sci-fi thrill ride made entirely by two people." The premiere will include stilt walkers, celebrities and an art show.

Doors open at 7 p.m.. The film will begin at 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are $15 and dress is cocktail suggested.

2. Come out to Marietta Square and enjoy lunch with the Brown Bag Concert Series from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, with the folk sounds of Spirit Wolf Band.

3. It's time for the June First Friday Art Walk in historic Marietta Square. The Art Walk is a free, self-guided tour showcasing local original art at restaurants, galleries, museums and shops around the Square. The Art Walk kicks off at 5 p.m.

4. On Friday, June 1 at 8 p.m., the presents the Half Dozen Brass Band, an ensemble of horn players that brings its own unique blend of jazz, hip-hop, funk and Dixieland to the Classic City.

As the only New Orleans-style brass band in Athens, GA, Half Dozen Brass Band offers the kind of celebratory music that thrives in the streets of the Big Easy, equally at home on stages or sidewalks. Tickets are $10 advance, $12 day of.
