Dogs Encourage Kids to Read

The Marietta Central Library has it's very own READing Paws team, which uses registered therapy dog teams as reading companions for children who don't like to read or have trouble reading.

READing Paws is a children's literacy organization aimed at enhancing the reading skills of first through fourth graders with the use of registered therapy animals, Lisa Poole, a READing Paws handler said.

The organization uses registered therapy dog teams as reading companions for children in schools, libraries and book stores. The program is especially productive for children who don't like to read or who have trouble reading.

The has it's very own READing Paws team. Join the library every other Tuesday from 4 to 5 p.m. for the after-school READing Program. Call 770-528-2320 to sign up.

The will host There will be several READing Paws therapy teams in attendance, both the handlers and their dogs. The suggested donation is $10 for the tasting of five to six wines from Monticello Vineyards, Corley Reserve and Corley.

On April 14, READing Paws will conduct a training at the Marietta Central Library for new volunteers wanting to become a READing Paws team.
