Cobb Health Agency to Offer Free HIV Testing

People can get tested from 1 to 4 p.m. or 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Georgia had the sixth highest number of cumulative HIV/AIDS cases in the nation in 2009, and 65 percent of those cases were from the metro Atlanta area that includes Cobb and Douglas counties.

That's why the Northwest Georgia chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, the Cobb & Douglas Public Health Department, the Cobb Community Services Board, and Makeup & Motivation this Thursday will offer free HIV testing and counseling.

"Activities such as these provide residents with critical information and resources to fight this epidemic," Joy Wells, Cobb & Douglas Public Health's director of epidemiology, said in a statement.

People can get tested from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the health agency's Marietta Public Health Center, 1650 County Services Pkwy., or from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Marietta Flea Market, 550 Franklin Rd. SE.

Results will be available in 20 minutes. For more information, call 770-514-2815 or 770-514-2432.
