The Marietta Charter School, also known as Imagine Marietta, became Marietta City School's first start-up charterMore school in August 2006, serving about 210 city students from kindergarten through the fifth grade.

As a charter school, the Marietta Charter School is a community partnership with the mission of enabling students to become critical thinkers, well-rounded individuals and caring world citizens through a rigorous course of study in a nurturing environment.

The school is part of Imagine Schools, founded by Dennis and Eileen Bakke. This teacher-driven organization operates 52 schools with 25,000 students in 11 states and the District of Columbia. This school site also serves as a regional office for all four Georgia-based Imagine schools. The other three are located in Smyrna, Mableton and Atlanta.

Christy Tureta serves as the principal of Imagine Marietta.

Sawyer Road Elementary School adopted the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Academy program. It providesMore students in kindergarten through 5th grade with a demanding academic course of study that develops global perspectives through inquiry-based learning. This program combines local, state and national standards with the arts and foreign languages to go beyond minimum state standards. Jill Sims is the current principal of this school. Sawyer is the only conversion charter school for Marietta City School.
