The Big Chicken

Domiciled on the northeastern section of the corner of U.S. 41 (Cobb Pkwy.) and Roswell Rd., sits Marietta's most famousMore landmark, The Big Chicken. This 56-ft. external steel-sided structure shaped like a chicken, is complete with a moving beak and eyes. Although built in 1956, the original structure did not include The Big Chicken steel facade until 1963, who's original purpose was to serve as a marketing tool to drive business to S.R. "Tubby" Davis' restaurant called Johnny Reb's Chick, Chuck and Shake. Sometime later, Mr. Davis sold the facility to his brother, and, subsequently, it became a KFC franchise. In 1993, extensive storm damage almost caused the demise of the aging facility. That is, however, until public outcry caused  KFC's management to acquiesce and rebuild the restaurant as it currently appears today. If one drives in Marietta and stops to ask for directions, it's a given that somewhere in the  directions the driver will hear, "Go to The Big Chicken and turn..."
