Giving a son a skill is better than giving him a thousand pieces of gold. When James Grady, Georgia Army National Guardsman, reflects on the values his mother instilled in him, this Chinese proverb resonates. On March 3, Grady, 40, was promoted to sergeant major, the highest enlisted title in the Army, for his exemplary dedication and leadership in the Georgia Army National Guard's G4/J4 logistics division. To make the commemorative occasion even more monumental, Jackie Mckennie, his mother, who is a sergeant major in the Georgia Army National Guard's G1 administrative section, pinned him at the ceremony. Are you a local author? Are you interested in writing, but not sure how to get started? Have you already written a book and would like to showcase your work? Would you like to talk to local authors about their works? The Friends of the Cobb County Public Library System’s second annual Local Author Expo will be held on Saturday, March 3 at the Central Library from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Local authors are invited to participate in the fundraiser. The Cobb County Public Library System is launching an informative healthy-living campaign in 2012, called “Discover Your Health at the Library.” The goal of the campaign is to provide opportunities for Cobb County residents to learn how they can have a healthier lifestyle. The series begins Saturday with Amanda Timberlake of Life University speaking about the benefits of exercise.
