Celebrate Mardi Gras with a Masquerade, 5K, Jazz, Dining Specials

Celebrate Mardi Gras with the 5K Run on Marietta Square, Atkins Park’s Oyster and Mardi Gras Festival in Smyrna, Henry’s Louisiana Grill Mardi Gras celebration in Acworth, a Masquerade Ball, or a Jazz Brunch Buffet in Kennesaw.

Mardi Gras is a week away, Tuesday, Feb. 12; however, Cobb County is kicking off the festivities early with a run on Marietta Square this weekend, a meet and eat for seniors on Thursday, and music and dining events leading up to Fat Tuesday. Take a look at some of the events going on this week and next week, and be sure to share your events in the comments below or in the community calendar. Get Out to Marietta Gun Show, Wonderful Days of Winter 5K

This weekend get out to the Marietta Gun Show at the Cobb Civic Center, Wonderful Days of Winter 5K/1 Mile at St. James' Episcopal Church and Georgia Bridal Show at the Cobb Galleria.

1. The Marietta Gun Show is Saturday, Jan. 5 and Sunday, Jan. 6 at the Cobb Civic Center, 548 S Marietta Pkwy. Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gun show is hosted by Eastman Gun Shows.  2. The Wonderful Days of Winter 5K/1 Mile will take place at St. James' Episcopal Church on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 8 a.m. 3. The Georgia Bridal Show is Sunday, Jan. 6 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Cobb Galleria. Make-A-Wish Cobb 5K Registration Open

The race, which will begin and end in Marietta Square, will be held on Oct. 6. at 8:00am.

Cobb County runners, walkers, joggers, and exercise lovers are invited to sign up for the 12th Annual Cobb County 5K benefiting Make-A-Wish Georgia, which will be held in early October. The 2011 iteration of the race raised $40,000 for Make-A-Wish, which allows children with life-threatening illnesses to see their wishes come true. The money raised in last year's race went towards granting the wishes of six children in the local area. Registration is open now for the 2012 race. Before Sept. 28, registration fees will be $20 for the untimed 5K and $25 for the timed 5K. After the 28th, the fees will increase to $25 and $35, respectively.
