by Senior Airman Elizabeth Van Patten, 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs, Dobbins Air Reserve Base Aeromedical evacuation crews bridge the gap between care in the field and care provided once a patient arrives at a hospital. These "Flying Samaritans" make flights from forward bases in Southwest Asia to the larger bases in Europe or stateside to transport wounded warriors from the battlefield and return those who have received care back to their duty locations. Although an aeromedical evacuation team usually flies with a C-130 aircrew, they can also fly on C-17 Globemaster IIIs, KC-135 Stratotankers or other aircraft, if there is a need. The aircraft are reconfigured into flying hospitals with cardiac monitors, defibrillators, intubation …

by Senior Airman Elizabeth Gaston, 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs, Dobbins Air Reserve Base On a clear day, a C-130 flies a true path. However, when high winds are added that path will remain true, but the aircraft stands to be jostled around. For an inexperienced passenger, this can be a nauseating, trying ordeal. As local civilian employers exited a C-130 on such a day, shaky legs walked back to an awaiting bus. These employers got to see what exactly a Reserve aircrew can go through and, hopefully, gained a new respect for Dobbins' own Citizen-Airmen. Employers of Dobbins Air Reserve Base Reservists were given an extensive orientation of what exactly doing the mission entails, during the 94th Airlift Wing's annual Employer …

"I've missed birthdays, mother's days, first days of school, a lot of special occasions that I would have loved to have been at," said Tech. Sgt.
