Charges are expected to be filed in connection with an accident that forced authorities to temporarily close three right lanes of Interstate 75 South near Canton Road Thursday afternoon. About 1:30 p.m, a woman in a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was driving in the left lane of the interstate, said Officer David Baldwin, the spokesman for the Marietta Police Department. "There was a car a little bit earlier before this woman that had two kayaks strapped to the top of her car," he said. "One of the kayaks broke loose and was laying in the left lane." Just after 3:30 p.m. today, a tractor-trailer crashed into a box truck, which crashed into a passenger car, said Officer David Baldwin, the spokesman for the Marietta Police Department.
All lanes of Interstate 75 South at Delk Road will be closed for the next two hours due to a vehicle accident, and the the Georgia State Patrol is advising afternoon and evening commuters to use alternate routes. Just after 3:30 p.m. today, a tractor-trailer crashed into a box truck, which crashed into a passenger car, said Officer David Baldwin, the spokesman for the Marietta Police Department. The tractor-trailer is on its side. "All of those cars, because of the size, are blocking the entire interstate," he said. "There's no serious injuries. Only minor injuries involved." Two Marietta teens were killed early Sunday in a crash that occurred on Sandy Plains Road at Kinjac Drive in Marietta. According to a Cobb County Police Department news release, the crash happened about 3:21 a.m. Based on preliminary information from CCPD’s Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, the crash saw a silver 2001 Volvo S60 going northbound on Sandy Plains Road at a high rate of speed when the driver apparently lost control. The car crossed into the southbound lanes of Sandy Plains Road and struck a large brick sign at the intersection of Kinjac Drive. A Florida truck driver has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide after an early-morning accident on Cobb Parkway killed a Marietta motorist and halted traffic on the busy thoroughfare for several hours. Marietta Police said James David Rast, Jr., 47, of Jay, Fla., who also was charged with failure to yield, is being held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on a $250,000 bond. The victim was identified by police as Mahmoud Dabdoub, 49, of Marietta. Police said Rast was driving a Freightliner tractor trailer around 7:15 a.m. when he attempted to turn southbound onto Cobb Parkway from Industrial Park Drive. Preliminary information from investigators indicates that the driver of a maroon 2009 Kia Spectra was traveling east on South Cobb Drive. At the same time the driver of a white 2010 Lexus RX350 and the driver of a blue 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser were traveling west on South Cobb Drive, Cobb Police report. The driver of the Kia entered the westbound travel lanes of South Cobb Drive and collided with the Lexus. Cobb authorities have released the identity of the deceased driver who was involved in the fatal crash occurred that Friday evening at the intersection of Cobb Parkway and Akers Mill Road near Cumberland Mall in Vinings. A Tennessee woman suffered serious head injuries early Saturday morning when the car she was driving crashed into a parked tractor-trailer on an entrance ramp to Interstate 75 in Marietta. The Marietta Police Department said Brandis B. Grier, 30, of South Pittsburg, Tenn., hit the tractor-trailer as she was approaching I-75 on a northbound entrance ramp from North Marietta Parkway around 2 a.m. Saturday. Police said the driver of the truck, which was parked in the left emergency lane, was uninjured, but Grier was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. A pedestrian was hit on South Cobb Drive and later pronounced dead Sunday night, according to the Cobb County Police Department. Authorities say Jose Luis Zamarripa-Perez of Smyrna, 55, was attempting to cross South Cobb Drive near the intersection of Waldrep Circle at about 7:45 p.m. when he was struck by a black 1990 Jeep Cherokee. Preliminary investigation suggests that Zamarripa-Perez was walking westbound and not at a pedestrian crosswalk. The driver, 63-year-old Nafisa V. Sheriff of Marietta, was traveling southbound on South Cobb Drive. Zamarripa-Perez was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
