CTC Falls to Albany Tech in GCAA First Round

The Golden Eagles finish the season at 19-12 overall, improving on the team’s 17-14 record last year, its first as an NJCAA member.

Chattahoochee Tech’s men’s basketball team fell in the final seconds of the first round of the GCAA tournament, losing 57-56 to Albany Tech on the road at nearby Darton College. The Golden Eagles, who took a 56-53 lead after an Asauhn Dixon-Tatum put-back dunk with 30 seconds remaining, lost the lead when ATC hit a 3-pointer to tie with 12 seconds to play. A free throw by Jamorris Gaines of Albany Tech with 1.7 seconds gave the Titans the one-point advantage, and a long CTC inbounds pass was intercepted to end the game. Dixon-Tatum, Tate Earn All-Conference Honors

The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association released its All-Region men’s basketball teams, and two Golden Eagles players received recognition for outstanding play during the regular season.

Asauhn Dixon-Tatum, Chattahoochee Technical College’s 6-foot-11 sophomore center, earned second-team All-GCAA honors as well as Defensive Player of the Year honors, and freshman point guard Sean Tate was an honorable mention all-region selection. Dixon-Tatum, from Highland, Ind., leads NJCAA Division I with 5.4 blocks per game, 152 total this season, and is fifth in the country in rebounding with 11.8 per game. He is also averaging 10.9 points per contest. Tate, a 5-8 guard from Sequoyah High School in Canton, Ga., is the conference leader in assists per game with 6.6, third in 3-point percentage at 41 percent, third in free-throw percentage at 83 percent, and 13th in the GCAA in scoring with 13.6 points per game. Sophomore Center Named GCAA Player of the Week

Asauhn Dixon-Tatum leads the GCAA in rebounding and is fourth nationally in that category. He is also second for the Golden Eagles in scoring.

The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association has named sophomore Asauhn Dixon-Tatum the Player of the Week for Week 7 of the men’s basketball conference season. Dixon-Tatum, a 6-foot-11 center from Highland High School in Highland, Ind., helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 2-1 conference record last week with wins over Georgia Perimeter and Central Georgia Tech. He averaged 12.6 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks per game during the three games. In an important overtime win on the road at Georgia Perimeter, Dixon-Tatum collected 17 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. For the season, he is averaging 10.8 points, 11.75 rebounds and 5.46 blocks per game (tops in the nation in NJCAA Division I). Dixon-Tatum signed with Chattahoochee Technical …

Golden Eagles End Regular-Season GCAA Play with Wins

The men’s team elevated its record to 18-11, 8-10 in conference, while the women improved to 13-15 and 6-12.

The Golden Eagles capped off their regular-season GCAA schedule with wins over Central Georgia Tech on Sunday night at the Smyrna Community Center, as the women won a 76-73 thriller and the men cruised to an 86-63 win. The men’s team elevated its record to 18-11, 8-10 in conference, while the women improved to 13-15 and 6-12. The women’s team has clinched a spot in the upcoming eight-team conference tournament; the men’s team is currently in line for a GCAA tourney spot with the seventh seed but must wait until other contenders finish their conference schedules. Golden Eagles Get Overtime Victory

Coming into Tuesday’s game in eighth place in the GCAA, the Golden Eagles moved up to seventh place with the win and are just 2.5 games out of second in the conference.

The Chattahoochee Tech men’s basketball team picked up a crucial road win at conference-leading Georgia Perimeter on Tuesday, defeating the Jaguars in overtime, 79-73. Thanks to a last-minute comeback in regulation from a 65-58 deficit, the Golden Eagles forced overtime after scoring the next seven points. In overtime, point guard Brannon Hopkins hit a corner 3-pointer with under a minute left to break a 73-73 tie and help Chatt Tech (17-10, 7-9 GCAA) to a victory. “I set up, and I knew it was going in right when it left my hand,” Hopkins said in a news release. “I was already at the half-court line when it went in.” A Sean Tate free throw and an Asauhn Dixon-Tatum dunk off a Tate lob at the buzzer sealed the game for CTC. The women’s team kept it close in the second half, drawing to within three points late in the game but fell 55-49 to the Lady Titans, and the men lost 57-56 on a buzzer-beating, half-court 3-pointer. The Lady Golden Eagles, winners of two of their last three heading into the game, dropped a 77-66 decision to the Lady Cougars and the men followed with a 64-58 defeat. The CTC women (10-10, 3-7 GCAA) led big early on, running out to a 22-7 advantage, the biggest lead for either team in the game. The Lady Golden Eagles led at halftime by a 38-33 score but were outscored by 16 in the second half. Four players scored in double figures for CTC, led by center Tequilla Vaughns’ 15. CTC Hoops Continue Hot Streaks

The Chattahoochee Tech basketball teams continued to surge on Saturday night with two road wins. The Golden Eagle women (10-9, 3-6 GCAA) won at Andrew College 69-64, while the men (14-6, 4-5) won their third game in a row at Waycross College, 64-61. For the men, it was a chance to knock off the Swamp Foxes, the 2011 conference champion, who were 3-1 in the GCAA heading into the game.
