This holiday season, audiences can enjoy the uplifting story of the Tony Award nominated musical Irving Berlin's "White Christmas." Presented by Atlanta Lyric Theatre, the stage reinvention of the beloved classic film will play at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre (117 N. Park Sq., Marietta) from Dec. 7 through Dec. 23. The musical tells the story of two showbiz buddies who put on a show in a picturesque Vermont inn and find their perfect mates in the bargain. The Atlanta Lyric Theatre was recognized with 18 nominations for the 2012 Suzi Bass Awards. Commonly known as 'The Suzis', the awards honor outstanding achievements in local professional theatre. This year, The Lyric is tied with Lawrenceville's Aurora Theatre receiving 18 nominations, second only to Atlanta's Alliance Theatre who received 22 nominations. The Lyric's "Thoroughly Modern Millie," "Ain't Misbehavin'" and "Gypsy" captured three of the five Suzi nominations for Best Musical. The Atlanta Lyric Theatre presents Cole Porter’s classic 1930s musical Anything Goes, Sept. 21 through Oct. 7, to kick off its 33rd season. The musical introduced several songs that have become legendary standards, such as “Anything Goes,” “It’s De-lovely,” “Friendship,” “You're the Top,” “Blow, Gabriel, Blow,” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.” Debuting in 1934 in the midst of the Depression, Anything Goes became an instant success, running for over 400 performances. This age-old tale of boy-meets-girl, boy-loses-girl, boy-meets-another-girl, boy-gets-one-of-the-girls, done as a zany shipboard musical, features the brilliant words and music of the incomparable Cole Porter.
