Marietta Wins Award for Real-Time Crisis Management Tool

The application has been a success in live and training scenarios including a severe storm, citywide events including the Fourth of July and two full-scale city exercises.

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) presented Marietta the Create Award for the city's innovation and use of technology. When a major public safety event occurs in Marietta, such as a train derailment, storm or parade, the city's department heads meet in Marietta's crisis management center (CMC) to coordinate the city's response. This helps Marietta efficiently respond when an emergency occurs and improves the city's operations during a crisis. With the city's online emergency management application, public safety workers in the field are able to enter data about the emergency into a mobile computer in their vehicles. Employees in the CMC are also able to add data simultaneously. This information goes into a database to visually display …

Cobb DOT Recognized for Being PEACH-y

The first program of its kind in Georgia, PEACH Road was adopted by Cobb County in 2010 to help integrate sustainability principles into transportation projects.

 Cobb County Department of Transportation (DOT) was recognized last week with the Environmental Sustainability Award for its PEACH Roads ("Preserving Environment And Community Heritage" Roads) program. The first program of its kind in Georgia, it was adopted by Cobb County in 2010 to help integrate sustainability principles into transportation projects. Each year, the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) recognizes local governments for their innovation and creative efforts to make the Atlanta region a better place. Cobb Residents Have Pick Between 2 Forums Today

There are two hot forums going on tonight at 7, and they both can be viewed from the comfort of your home.

On Tuesday night, Cobb citizens will have their pick between two important forums, which they can watch from the comfort of their homes. From 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, the four Cobb Commission Chairman candidates– all Republican middle-aged men– will have another shot to let Cobb voters know who they are and what they stand for at the Cobb County Civic Coalition's forum, which can be viewed live on Cobb County's TV23 and online at www.cobbcounty.org/tv23 or TV23 on Livestream. Members of the public are also invited to attend the forum in person at the Commissioners Meeting Room at 100 Cherokee St. in Marietta. Marietta Gets Grant for Redevelopment, Transportation Study

The study will examine ways to redevelop Cobb Parkway and South Marietta Parkway, increase visibility of SPSU and Life University and help connect the universities with the surrounding community.

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) recently awarded the city of Marietta, Southern Polytechnic State and Life universities an $80,000 grant through the Livable Centers Initiative program (LCI). The grant is to help fund a study of properties near Southern Polytechnic State and Life universities that will examine ways to redevelop Cobb Parkway and South Marietta Parkway, increase visibility of the campuses and help to connect the universities with the surrounding community. "The joint study will examine ways to link SPSU and Life universities that will enable them to share resources," city of Marietta senior urban planner Kyethea Clark said in a news release. Cobb DOT Voucher Program for the Disabled

More than $500,000 in federal funds will be used to reach residents living outside Cobb Community Transit service areas.

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) recently awarded  with $528,850 in federal funding to support development of a voucher program for disabled residents. Officials said the funding would be used to reach disabled residents, between the ages of 18 and 59, who live outside Cobb Community Transit service areas. July 2011, the Cobb County Commissioners . The cost for the three regular and paratransit routes per year is $3.1 million. . “We have a long list of persons already identified who fall in this category and are so pleased to be able to offer some assistance to those who face transportation and mobility challenges on a daily basis,” Laraine A.
