A Jeep traveling at a high rate of speed east on Whitlock Avenue left the roadway, overturned and hit a tree, killing the driver instantly.
Marietta Police are investigating a single vehicle fatality accident on Whitlock Avenue at Winn Street that occurred at 1:42 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8. Initial on scene investigation reveals that a 2001 Jeep Cherokee was traveling east on Whitlock Avenue at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control causing his vehicle to leave the roadway, overturn and strike a tree, killing the driver instantly. The driver's name is being withheld pending family notification. A 29-year-old Roswell man and a 41-year-old Marietta man died in a fatal wreck that temporarily shut down a major Austell thoroughfare early this morning. Just after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, an Austell police officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a silver 2005 Acura TL on Pontiac Circle near Maxham Road. A bicyclist was killed in a hit-and-run accident on South Marietta Parkway Wednesday morning.
Joseph Gathambyri, 25, of Marietta was riding a bicycle on South Marietta Parkway westbound when he was struck and killed from behind by a vehicle that then fled the scene, according to Marietta Police. Through evidence studied on the scene and a tip to the Marietta Police Department investigators located a black 1994 Toyota Truck at a west Marietta residence believed to be involved in the incident. Further investigation into this vehicle lead to the location and arrest of the driver, Damon Thomas Lautch, 27. Lautch is being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on charges of hit and run, DUI and 1st degree vehicular homicide. A 55-year-old male was riding a bicycle on Powder Springs Street near Natchez Trace when he was struck by what witnesses describe as a black SUV.
The Marietta Police Department Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) is investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident. The accident occurred at 7:43 p.m. on March 31 on Powder Springs Street, according to Marietta Police. A 55-year-old male was riding a bicycle on Powder Springs Street near Natchez Trace when he was struck by what witnesses describe as a black SUV, Police said. The driver of the vehicle was last seen northbound on Powder Springs Street towards downtown Marietta. The bicycle rider was transported to Kennestone Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Marietta Police say the victim was struck crossing near Allgood Road Monday night.
A pedestrian crossing Cobb Parkway near Allgood Road died Monday night after being hit by a car, according to Marietta Police. The male victim's name is being withheld pending notification of kin, according to police. The accident occurred around 8:55 p.m. Monday when a maroon 2001 Mercedes 320 was heading southbound on Cobb Parkway, just north of Allgood Road. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, who police said was crossing Cobb Parkway outside of the crosswalk. The pedestrian was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he died, according to police. A female pedestrian wearing dark clothing stepped into the path of a white 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix heading southbound on Sandtown Road, the Marietta Daily Journal and Examiner report. The woman was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital but died as a result of injuries, the MDJ and Examiner report. The identity of the black woman, approximately 5-foot-4, 110 pounds, is not known. She is believed to be in her forties or fifties and has short gray hair. A Marietta Police officer was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when he was hit by a car. Officer James McClure, 26, was working at the scene of a four-car accident on the Canton Road Connector near the Church Street extension, WSBTV, the AJC and The Marietta Daily Journal report. He stepped into the northbound roadway to stop traffic for emergency vehicles when he was hit, WSBTV and CBS Atlanta report. Christopher Peyton, 52, of Marietta, failed to stop his Nissan Titan, hitting a stopped Ford F-150 driven by James Dorden, 62, of Marietta, the AJC and 11 Alive report. The F-150 struck McClure. A representative from Georgia State Patrol said charges are still pending as officers continue to investigate a Douglas County car accident that killed a Smyrna woman and her Atlanta co-worker. Michelle Chinnis, 35, of Smyrna was driving her Nissan Sentra on a sales call with her co-worker Tracy Downer, 44, of Atlanta when the car was struck on the driver’s side by a tractor trailer. Some witnesses have reported that the driver of the tractor trailer, Robert Sansom, 64, of Colorado, was trying to beat a red light before the collision. A Marietta man died at the scene as a result of injuries he sustained in a two-car accident on Powder Springs Road Saturday.
A man was killed in an accident on Powder Springs Road in Marietta on Saturday, July 14, when his Honda Accord moved into the path of an oncoming vehicle. The driver of the black 1999 Honda Accord, while traveling northbound on Powder Springs Road near Pamela Circle, failed to maintain his lane and collided with a silver 2002 BMW X5. The driver, identified as 21-year-old Jordan Irby of Marietta, died at the scene as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash. The right front passenger of the Honda, 19-year-old Kandice Grace of Marietta, was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where she was being treated for serious injuries. Officer Michael Randall, a six-year veteran of the Marietta Police Department, was involved in a serious motorcycle accident Friday morning on Dallas Highway in Cobb County. Officer Randall was off duty and riding his personal motorcycle when the crash occurred. He was taken to Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries, according to Police. As of 2 p.m. Friday, Randall was listed in critical but stable condition.
