City officials, fortune 500 companies, celebrities and community members will celebrate the 85th Oscars tonight at Oscar Experience 2013, the only officially sanctioned viewing party in the state. The Center for Family Resources (CFR), an Atlanta non-profit that helps homeless families become self-sufficient, is hosting the black-tie affair, which serves as a fundraiser for the organization. The following area leaders will be in attendance: Since 1994, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has allowed local charities to host viewing parties. The money generated from the parties remain in the communities where it was raised. In past years, the Center for Family Resources has raised more than $300,000. It has hosted Cobb's viewing …

Almost 50 people arrived at MUST Ministries on Sept. 13 to learn skills that will help them get a job. MUST hosted the “Step Up Your Game” event in conjunction with other non-profits in the area, including Nobis Works, Goodwill, Center for Family Resources and Cobb Works. The collaborative event was the second conference this group has coordinated. The one-day seminar emphasizes interview skills, making a good first impression, meetings with hiring professionals and maintaining a job. On Monday, June 18, The Center for Family Resources hosted a recognition luncheon at Cambridge Woods Apartments to unveil the recent improvements made to the property provided by Balfour Beatty Construction. The Center for Family Resources hosted Atlanta’s only officially-sanctioned Oscar Night America party, an annual fundraiser event, that raised more than $290,000 with all proceeds supporting the mission and work of CFR on Sunday, Feb. 26. Guests were greeted by paparazzi and the evening’s red carpet host, Veronica Waters of WSB- Radio. The Marietta Johnson Ferry Bank of North Georgia supported the Center for Family Resources, and the Marietta Roswell Street location supported Cobb Christmas.
Bank of North Georgia and Bank of Coweta, two divisions of Synovus Bank, hosted a Holiday Toy Drive from Nov. 25 through Dec. 16 at its 46 branches in metro Atlanta. Customers and local residents participated in the Holiday Toy Drive by bringing new, unwrapped toys for boys and girls to the banks. The Marietta Johnson Ferry Bank of North Georgia supported the Center for Family Resources, and the Marietta Roswell Street location supported Cobb Christmas. A total of 2,534 toys were collected through this program. Last year, 2,787 toys were collected. Wells Fargo team members chose 15 Marietta nonprofit groups and 234 nonprofits in all for $1,000 grants in the third year of the Days of Giving program in Atlanta. A total of 40 groups from Cobb and surrounding areas were honored Tuesday at a breakfast at Mansour Center. The Marietta groups that received checks include: “Just the names of many groups say so much,” said Jim Lawrence, Wells Fargo’s community bank president for Cobb. “We are proud to reach so many groups and people through this.” The company's Atlanta team members pledged $937,000 through its annual United Way and Community Support campaign, 10 percent more than last year.
