Four Chattahoochee Technical College students have been selected as the college’s finalists for the Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership (GOAL), according to Lucylle Shelton, coordinator for the CTC GOAL program. Chosen as finalists were: According to Shelton, a screening committee of administrators at Chattahoochee Technical College selected the four finalists from a list of students nominated by their instructors. GOAL, a statewide program of the Technical College System of Georgia, honors excellence in academics and leadership among the state’s technical college students. GOAL winners are selected at each of the state’s technical colleges as well as the two Board of Regents colleges with technical education divisions. GOAL …

The Georgia Department of Labor’s (GDOL) Cobb-Cherokee Career Center will help Chattahoochee Technical College recruit unemployed workers and other students to enroll in short-term training classes for a variety of “in-demand” jobs in the technology field. The training program is entitled Jump Start Your Career in the Technology Industry. The recruitment for the program will be held Thursday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at the career center, located at 465 Big Shanty Rd. in Marietta. The classes will be taught during the 2013 Spring Semester, beginning January 12. The Georgia Department of Labor’s Cartersville Career Center will assist Chattahoochee Technical College with a career expo for veterans and other job seekers Thursday, Nov. 1, in Acworth. The expo will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Building 400 on Chattahoochee Tech’s North Metro Campus, located at 5198 Ross Rd. The expo will feature a number of employers, educational institutions and resource agencies that provide assistance to job seekers. The employers will be hiring or discussing current and future employment opportunities, while other organizations will provide educational and other resources. Applicants should bring plenty of resumes and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings. …

For the 43 students participating in the Chattahoochee Technical College Adult Education Recognition Ceremony Thursday, it was a celebration they missed out on in high school. The graduates represent just a portion of the 814 students who earned a GED at Chattahoochee Technical College’s numerous testing centers. “Many of us worked in jobs with employers who had the mercy to hire us,” said graduate Clarisse Henderson Morris of Euharlee. “Then they had to fire us or lay us off because we did not have that high school diploma.” Thursday night’s ceremony included three graduates who were selected by the program’s instructors and administrators to tell their own story about their journey. Ron Newcomb, the new president of Chattahoochee Technical College, was introduced to and welcomed by members of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce at a reception Thursday evening in Marietta. The reception held at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre was the fifth of several set in each of the six counties served by the school. The last reception will be held in Canton in June. Attendees at the event included state legislators, and community and business leaders around Cobb County. Building a strong workforce for communities in Georgia is Chatt Tech's No. 1 priority, Newcomb told Patch in February, after he was named the college's new president.
