Do you know the story behind the first Christmas Tree? According to Christmas-Tree.com, it really is rooted in Christianity. The legend is that the Christmas Tree tradition began in Germany almost 1,000 ago when St. Boniface, a Christian convert, supposedly got angry after seeing some pagans worshipping an oak tree. He chopped the oak tree down in anger, only to find a young fir tree sprout up in its place. He is reported to have taken the fir tree as a sign of the Christian faith. Later, by the 16th Century, the Christmas Tree was brought inside as a symbol of the Christmas season. Better Home and Garden Magazine has several 2012 themed suggestions for those who want to get creative with their Christmas Tree this year. The article …

For the purists, a fake tree would never grace the middle of the living room. No fragrant scent, no dice. On the other hand, what’s the point of cutting down or buying a real tree just so it can sit in your house for a couple of weeks, drip sap and drop needles all over the living room rug? There’s a choice to be made for sure and the season is upon us. So which way are you going this year? Do you plan to pull out the artificial tree or go buy one for the season? According to the National Christmas Tree Association, the number of real trees purchased in 2010 was 27 million, while fake trees were 8.2 million (note: you only need to buy an artificial tree once). So what are your thoughts - does a tree need to be real or does an artificial …

How to pick out the best tree for your home, preference and price point.
With so many options, picking out a Christmas tree can sometimes make you feel like you're in "A Charlie Brown Christmas." Any given tree can either be too short, too tall, too bald, too bushy or have a myriad of other problems. So how can you tell which tree is the right one for you? To help select your favorite tree, the characteristics of the more popular species are listed below. Douglas-fir: This tree is generally available as a sheared tree and is the most common species found on tree lots. It has a nice fragrance and a medium-to-good shelf life. Because of the thick, bushy crowns, they do not lend themselves to large or heavy decorations. This species is the easiest to grow because it is relatively problem-free. It requires seven…

Fresh-cut trees, palm trees, twig trees, tabletop trees, fiber optic trees and more—take a look at where you can find deals on artificial and fresh-cut trees.
This week Frugal Family has the scoop on where to find the best Christmas tree deals around town. Interestingly, the prices of fresh-cut trees have gone down, not up, over the last five years. Whatever the reason, the fresh-cut tree prices allow those who have been pining to have a 7-foot Frazier Fir for under $50 to get their wish. Home Depot, Lowe’s and Walmart all offer fresh-cut trees. For those who don’t want to deal with a fresh cut tree, there are some good prices on artificial trees at those same stores as well as Target, K-Mart and Big Lots. The biggest surprise in Christmas trees in general, though, is the variety. Palm trees, twig trees, even topiaries are considered perfectly appropriate and they are so much fun! 2350 Dallas …

Picking out a Christmas tree isn’t as hard as you might think. In fact, at our house we have this thing down to a science. Upon arrival at our favorite nursery we pick out the tree in record time. Pick it up, twirl it around, say “yes” or “no” and move on ‘til you find the perfect one. Easy. When we get home the first thing, of course is to get the tree inside. My husband Paul, who is very thorough, has attached the tree so firmly to the top of our car that it takes 30 minutes and a Houdini handbook to untie it. Once that’s accomplished I immediately put the Christmas tree on drugs. Placing the trunk in a bath of warm water infused with high doses of sugar and aspirin, I hope that the tree will take kindly to its new environment; i.e. …
