Update: Police Locate Missing Marietta Man

Harry Brown was last seen Monday evening on Windage Way. He was found about 2 a.m. Tuesday in good spirits.

Cobb authorities early this morning canceled a Mattie’s Call for a missing 69-year-old Marietta man who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Harry Brown, who was last seen at 1400 Windage Way about 6:30 p.m. Monday, was found about 2 a.m. Tuesday behind a residence "within a close proximity of where he went missing," said Officer Mike Bowman with the Cobb County Police Department. Though he "was in good spirits," Brown was taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell as a precaution, Bowman said. There were no signs of foul play. Cobb County Police late Monday night issued a Mattie’s Call for a missing 69-year-old man. According to police, Harry Brown of Marietta was last seen at 1400 Windage Way about 6:30 p.m. and was believed to have left on foot. …

Driver Dies in Marietta Rollover Wreck

The Wrangler Jeep overturned at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Ebenezer Road and Blackwell Road in Marietta.

Gary M. Humphreys, 25, was ejected from his Jeep and pronounced dead at the scene of an overnight crash in Marietta, 11 Alive and CBS Atlanta report. The Wrangler Jeep overturned at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Ebenezer Road and Blackwell Road, according to 11 Alive. Humphreys was ejected when his Jeep hit a guardrail. He was not wearing his seat belt, CBS reports. Alcohol is being considered a possible factor in this crash.

Florida Fugitive Caught Near Delk Road

A car breakdown on I-75 leads to the arrest of a suspect sought in connection with the death of an Orlando man.

When a stolen vehicle driven by a Florida man broke down Monday night on Interstate 75 in Cobb County, his luck eluding authorities back home ran out.  Marietta Police have detained Thomas Heath, 34, whom law enforcement officials in Orange County, Fla., want to question in connection with the kidnapping and death of an Ocoee, Fla., man. Heath has been charged with grand theft auto. Jay Stone, 30, a custodian at Walt Disney World, was found dead in his apartment Saturday, according to Orlando TV station WESH, which also reported that Heath and his family had befriended and moved in with the victim earlier this month.  According to a statement issued by Marietta Police, the vehicle carrying Heath, his wife and their two young children broke…

Teen Allegedly Kills Mother

Police reported to the crime scene at Ashley Drive, off Barrett Parkway and immediately arrested an 18-year-old.

Update (8:00 a.m., Tuesday): According to a news release from the Cobb County Police Department, Damian Cornell Purdue McElrath has been charged with aggravated assault and murder in the death of Diane McElrath. Update (10:25 p.m.): The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Diane McElrath. Her son, Damian Cornell Purdue McElrath, 18, has been charged with murder and aggravated assault. He is being held without bond in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. Update (6:15 p.m.): According to Cobb County Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Possible Lollipop Bandit Arrested

Authorities made the arrest Monday morning in Roswell less than two days after a robbery in Hiram and a month after Marietta and South Cobb robberies.

Authorities Monday made an arrest in connection with the Saturday afternoon robbery at the Bank of America branch in Hiram. The suspect could be the Lollipop Bandit responsible for the May 18 robbery of the Regions Bank at 2048 Macland Crossing Circle south of Marietta and the May robbery of the Wells Fargo branch at 5010 Floyd Rd. in South Cobb, according to WSB Radio. Devin Johnson of Powder Springs, 28, faces one count of robbery after being apprehended at a friend’s house in Roswell about 10:30 a.m., according to Detective Donald Roberts of the Hiram Police Department. Lollipop Bandit Robs Marietta Bank

The robbery at Regions comes a week after a similar incident in South Cobb.

A man sucking on a lollipop has robbed a Cobb County bank for the second time in a week. Friday just before noon, a man walked into the Regions Bank at 2048 Macland Crossing Circle south of Marietta, showed a teller a note indicating that he had a gun, then demanded and received cash—all with the lollipop in his mouth. He then fled and foot and is believed to have gotten into an older-model Toyota Corolla that was white or silver, Cobb County police spokesman Officer Michael Bowman said in a news release. The robber is a 5-foot-9 black man who was wearing a black do-rag, khaki shorts, and large, black-brown-and-white sunglasses. Marietta Man Killed Crossing Austell Rd.

As in other recent pedestrian deaths in Cobb County, Arthur Horne walked outside a crosswalk.

A Marietta man was killed Friday afternoon trying to cross Austell Road just north of Hicks Road. The death of Arthur Horne, 38, was at least the fourth time in two months that a pedestrian was killed in Cobb County while trying to cross a road outside a crosswalk. Horne walked into the path of a southbound gray 2004 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Claudia Hopkins, 22, of Austell about 6 p.m. Friday, Cobb County police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce said. Horne was pronounced dead at WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell. Hopkins was not hurt and is not expected to be charged. Still, police ask anyone with information about the crash to call 770-499-3987. I agree it was a tragedy!! But, almost every single day I see pedestrians crossing the street in the middle of the road when the crosswalk is only 20 to 50 ft away. They even cross over, and stand in the turning lane waiting for traffic to go by. Why would you risk your life to save a few steps?? Yes maybe we do need more crosswalks, but at the same time we need the pedestrians to use them.   more ›

Cobb Man Caught with Cocaine

The Marietta resident is being held in a jail in upstate New York.

A Cobb County man was busted on drug charges Sunday in upstate New York. Emmanual L. Sheppard, 30, who has a Marietta address, was one of three people arrested in the village of Adams, not far from Syracuse, after police received a complaint about the odor of marijuana coming from an apartment, the Watertown Daily Times reported. Adams police investigated and said they found 1.3 kilograms (about 2.9 pounds) of powder and crack cocaine, marijuana residue and drug paraphernalia when they searched the apartment, the Daily Times added. The cocaine had a police-estimated street value of $130,000, WNYF-TV said. Sheppard, Christopher Wilson, 31, of Watertown, NY, and Kristin Avallone-Clark, 22, of Carthage, NY, were arrested and charged with …
