Georgia Veterans Give Back to Dobbins

Members of the Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance donated gift cards to help Airmen, Marines, Soldiers and Sailors around Dobbins Air Reserve Base who have entered into a financial crisis.

Timothy Tarchick, 94th Airlift Wing commander, and Angela Pedersen, 94th AW Airman and Family Readiness Office director, with 40 gift cards to a local grocery store. The gift cards will be used to help, not only Airmen, but also Marines, Soldiers and Sailors around Dobbins Air Reserve Base in need during the holiday season who, through no fault of their own, have entered into a financial crisis. "We are very grateful for Georgia Vietnam Veterans Alliance," said Tarchick. "John Bevich and Bob Humphries have come here to donate these gifts to our military members who need assistance during the holidays." …

Funds Sought for Children of Accident Victims

Ryan and Jessica Lombardo, killed in an East Cobb crash, did not have life insurance.

Donations are being sought to assist the children of an East Cobb couple killed last weekend in a truck crash. Ryan and Jessica Lombardo, who died in the accident early Saturday morning, did not have life insurance for their three children -- a son, 15, and daughters 6 and 5 -- according to The Marietta Daily Journal. The report said donations may be made at any branch of the Bank of North Georgia in care of “The children of Ryan and Jessica Lombardo fund." The Brumby Elementary School Foundation also has set up an account to accept donations on behalf of the Lombardo children. Santa's Got a New Reindeer and It Answers to Hercules

Members of the Blue Angels visited Lockheed Martin in Marietta on Monday to pick up two pallets of toys to deliver to children impacted by Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey.

Members of the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels, visited the Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co., site in Marietta on Monday to pick up two pallets of toys to deliver to children impacted by Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey. The toys were loaded into the Blue Angels’ C-130 Hercules cargo plane (known as “Fat Albert”) that was built in Marietta and delivered to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J. The Blue Angels collected more than 900 toys here, which were donated by employees and Lockheed Martin. About half of these toys are science, technology, engineering and math (STEM)-focused in support Lockheed Martin’s corporate philanthropy commitment to STEM education outreach. Donations Sought for Senior Santa Event

Residents can help by donating new generic items or making a $30 donation to adopt a senior for the event.

Cobb Senior Services is looking for donations for its seventh annual Senior Santa on Dec. 14. This special event is an excellent opportunity for homebound senior adults in Cobb to enjoy an afternoon of holiday cheer, food, gifts and fellowship with others. Residents can help by donating new generic items or making a $30 donation to adopt a senior for the event. Suggested items for donation include: bath sets, combs, brushes, pajamas, healthy snacks, hat and glove sets, gift cards, blood pressure monitors, pens and pencils, postage stamps, stocking stuffers and large print books. 'Tis the season for generosity. Cobb families seek out charities to give donations. Did you know that due to budget cuts, Cobb County service agencies need donations? Here is a list of county agencies in need of donations: Animal Shelter - You can help make a difference in the lives of animals housed at Cobb County Animal Control. Money received will be used to help pay for the care of animals. There are volunteering opportunities, too. K-9 Donations - The K-9 unit is a vital part of police department’s efforts to protect Cobb County. Police canines perform a broad range of essential functions, including patrol activities, narcotic detection and bomb detection. Save a Seat to Save a Theatre

Theatre in the Square put its name on the endangered list this week.

Theatre in the Square announced an emergency fundraising drive to raise a quarter of a million dollars by Oct. 15. "We are, quite bluntly put, on the brink of financial disaster," co-founder and producing director of Theatre in the Square Palmer Wells said in a news release. "The need is real, it is urgent and it is immediate." Theatre in the Square is asking patrons to participate in the Save Your Seat campaign. By donating $1,000, patrons will secure an engraved plaque on the back of one of the 225 seats in the main stage theater. More than a dozen seats have already been reserved. The non-profit organization has a $1.5 million operating budget, 65% of which comes through ticket sales and 35% of which relies on donations from individuals…
