East Cobb's Merchants Walk 12 Cinema once again is one of the venues for the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival. While the festival continues through Feb. 20, the Merchants Walk schedule runs only through Wednesday. After Wednesday's gala kickoff event at the Cobb Energy Center, the festival gets underway in East Cobb tonight at 8 p.m. with a showing of "Simon and the Oaks," a coming-of-age film set in Sweden during World War II. The festival continues at Merchants Walk on Friday at 12 p.m. with "Paris-Manhattan," which involves a Woody Allen obsession. Cobb Animal Control Unaffected by Budget Cuts

Public Safety Cpt. Jeff Patellis: "17,000 animals pass through the doors of the Cobb County Animal Shelter yearly. Of those we adopt out about 6,000."

Public Safety Cpt. Jeff Patellis gave residents an overview of Cobb County Animal Shelter operations at Commissioner JoAnn Birrell's town hall meeting last Thursday. Patellis described the state-of-the art surgical facility at CCAC where pets are spayed and neutered to help control the animal population. All animals receive a rabies vaccination administered by the veterinarian. Cobb County is one of the few Georgia counties to have a full-time veterinarian on staff. Patellis describes shelter operations and the surgical facility in this article's accompanying videos.

Commissioner Birrell is a friend of companion animals, I regret missing this meeting. I am curious, what is the procedure of using the gas chamber? is it a simple first in Cobb Animal Control, first in gas chamber? how many animals are put in the chamber per gassing? The answers may shine light on the urgency for citizens to commit to being part of the solution to our pet overpopulation crisis.   more ›

LeCroy Remembered as Devoted Trooper, Family Man

The Marietta funeral for the slain officer draws hundreds from law enforcement and the public.

A woman softly clutched a box of tissues while waiting outside Roswell Street Baptist Church early Friday afternoon, perhaps signifying the tears that would flow from more eyes than her own as Marietta, Cobb County and the state of Georgia said goodbye to a fallen hero.  The audience that filled the massive sanctuary for the funeral of Trooper Chadwick LeCroy heard occasional boosts of levity as his co-workers and superiors with the Georgia State Patrol described him as a down-to-earth personality but also as someone driven to "catch bad guys." Maj. Mark McDonough, the commanding officer of the patrol's field operations, spoke of how he imagined playfully, upon first hearing LeCroy's full name, an English high-society gentleman, all the …
