Third F-35B for United Kingdom Makes First Flight

Monday, the third United Kingdom Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II sped down the runway at Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base in Texas embarking on its first flight.

Monday, the third United Kingdom Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II sped down the runway at Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base in Texas embarking on its first flight. The aircraft, known as ZM137, departed at 10:16 a.m. with Lockheed Martin F-35 Chief Test Pilot Alan Norman at the controls. ZM137 will complete a series of company and government checkout flights prior to its acceptance by the U.K. Ministry of Defence. ZM137 will join U.K. aircraft ZM135 and ZM136 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., later this year where it will be used for pilot and maintainer training. First International Student Pilot Flies F-35

The first international student aviator at the 33rd Fighter Wing, training to be an F-35B Lightning II instructor pilot, completed his first sortie in the joint strike fighter.

United Kingdom Royal Air Force Squadron Leader Frankie Buchler flew with Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron-501. "There were no surprises, the jet was fun to fly and the flight went as expected," said Buchler. "The ground school training package at the Academic Training Center with the flight simulators prepared me for smooth flying." March 21. Maj. Lorraine Martin to Lead Lockheed Martin F-35 Program

Lockheed Martin Corporation's board of directors has approved the appointment of Lorraine Martin as vice president and general manager of the F-35 Lightning II program.

Second F-35 for the Netherlands Rolls Out

The Netherlands is planning to use this conventional takeoff and landing jet, known as AN-2, for training and operational tests for pilots and maintainers.

The second Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II for the Netherlands rolled out of the F-35 production facility in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 2. This is the latest step in the production process leading to its eventual assignment to Eglin AFB, Fla., later this summer. The Netherlands is planning to use this conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) jet, known as AN-2, for training and operational tests for pilots and maintainers. First F-35 With Marietta-Built Center Wing Flown

The first Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II with a Center Wing Assembly built at the Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta, was flown for the first time last week. Approximately 350 people work on the F-35 program in Marietta.

The first Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II with a Center Wing Assembly (CWA) built at the Lockheed Martin facility in Marietta, was flown for the first time last week. The aircraft, known as BF-25, is an F-35B short takeoff and vertical landing variant that will be delivered to the U. S. Marine Corps at Yuma, Arizona. The CWA is a major structural component and represents approximately one quarter of the aircraft’s fuselage. Approximately 350 people work on the F-35 program in Marietta. In addition to building the CWAs, technicians also apply specialized stealth coatings to F-35 horizontal and vertical tail control assemblies and also coat spare and repaired aircraft doors, panels and covers. F-35A Completes 3-Year Clean Wing Flutter Testing Program

The mission, flown by Maj. Ryan “Gunner” Reinhardt, marks the conclusion of three years of testing that now allows the F-35A to proceed with tests continuing to expand its flight envelope and validate predictions in real-world scenarios.

An F-35A Lightning II conventional takeoff and landing aircraft, known as AF-1, completed its final test mission for clean wing flutter. Flutter testing was conducted to ensure the jet’s structure could withstand various aerodynamic loads verifying the F-35A’s design. The mission, flown by Maj. Ryan “Gunner” Reinhardt, marks the conclusion of three years of testing that now allows the F-35A to proceed with tests continuing to expand its flight envelope and validate predictions in real-world scenarios. The testing demonstrated the F-35 is clear of flutter, at speeds up to 1.6 Mach and 700 knots with weapon bay doors open or closed, critical to performing its combat mission.  Data collected proves the F-35A flight dynamics maintains a large …

100th F-35 on Lockheed Martin's Production Line

The 100th aircraft is one of more than 89 F-35s in various stages of completion on Lockheed Martin production lines in Fort Worth and Marietta and supplier locations across the world.

Assembly of the 100th Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is well underway at the F-35 production facility in Fort Worth, Texas. F-35 technicians are in the final phase of building the wings that will be installed on the 100th aircraft known as AF-41. AF-41, a conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) variant, is one of more than 89 F-35s in various stages of completion on Lockheed Martin production lines in Fort Worth and Marietta, and supplier locations across the world. The jet will be delivered to the U.S. Air Force and is slated for pilot training at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz.
