Zaxby’s Marietta Literacy Fundraiser Thursday

Eat at Zaxby’s Marietta Thursday evening and 10 percent of total sales during fundraiser night go toward Marietta Reads!

Marietta City Schools (MCS) and Zaxby’s Restaurant are teaming up to raise funds to benefit the district’s Marietta Reads! literacy initiative. The Marietta Reads! Fundraiser night at Zaxby’s Marietta, located at 1347 Church Street Ext., is Thursday, April 25 from 5 - 8 p.m. Eat at Zaxby’s Marietta Thursday evening and 10 percent of total sales during fundraiser night go toward Marietta Reads! Marietta Reads! is a citywide effort to foster reading and literacy. The purpose of this initiative is to encourage Marietta City School students to read more, read better and read widely. Cobb Fire to Help Burn Survivors

The “Give Burns the Boot” fundraising drive starts Friday.

Cobb firefighters will be at local grocery stores and other businesses across the county for the next three Fridays to raise money for burn survivors. The “Give Burns the Boot” fundraising drive will be held April 26, May 3 and May 10, said Denell Boyd, the spokeswoman for Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services. "Every station will go in their territory to different locations that give them permission," she said. Donations will benefit the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation, which runs Camp Oo-U-La, the state's only camp held exclusively for children recovering from burn injuries. Ruby Tuesday's Community Giveback Program will donate 20 percent of purchases on Wednesday, April 24, and Wednesday, May 1, to Cobb Senior Services Meal on Wheels.

The public has the opportunity to enjoy a meal and help ensure local senior citizens have hot and nutritious meals daily. Marietta Reads, Zaxby’s Partner for Literacy Fundraiser

12-12-12 Concert to Benefit Hurricane Sandy Victims

Some of the biggest names in music will play at a benefit concert on Wednesday. All proceeds will go to Hurricane Sandy victims, via the Robin Hood Foundation.

Huge names in music are lending their talents to Hurricane Sandy relief efforts at the “12-12-12” concert on Wednesday, Dec. 12. Every penny sold from ticket sales will go directly to Sandy victims through the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which provides material, money and aid to local organizations that are serving families and individuals in the regions hardest hit by the storm, including over 200 Patch towns in New Jersey, Connecticut and Long Island. The all-star lineup includes Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Eddie Vedder, Roger Waters, Kanye West, The Who and Paul McCartney, with other artists to be announced. Power of Social Media Leads to Miraculous Response for MUST

Blake Canterbury, of Be Remedy, and Piedmont Church sent out tweets Saturday asking their followers to donate shoes for 150 people who live with MUST. The result was 456 pairs of shoes in 19 hours.

What happens when social media and Christian charity intersect? Those living in homelessness will be able to select a pair of much-needed shoes this week, thanks to a shoe drive challenge that went out on twitter Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. The story began when Blake Canterbury of Be Remedy visited MUST Ministries and asked for a list of the greatest needs. Canterbury’s effective social media approach matches needs with people who want to meet those needs via his twitter feed.  “I was there when all of this started happening and I confess, I broke down in tears," Kaye Cagle of MUST said. Strand Call-A-Thon Aims to Raise $50,000 in 12 Hours

Money raised will go toward the Friends of the Strand’s Capital Campaign, which covers the renovation costs of re-opening the Strand in 2009. The call-a-thon will be the first event in a fundraising push to support the Strand’s continued success.

The Earl Smith Strand Theatre will be kicking off its 2012 fundraising campaign with the First Annual Strand Call-a-thon on Wednesday, a 12-hour fundraising event complete with an open house and live entertainment. The goal is to raise $50,000 in one 12-hour push. Members of the Friends of the Strand Board will be manning the phone bank on the Strand stage from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., while performance sets take place in front of them at the top of every hour. The event will be free and open to the public and will also be broadcast live over the internet at www.ustream.tv/channel/strand-theatre. Firefighters Annual Boot Drive

The drive raises funds to support the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation and Camp Oo-U-La, the state’s only camp held exclusively for burn-injured children.

Firefighters from Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services will be out in the community the first three Fridays in May with boots in hand. The “Give Burns the Boot” fundraising drive will be held May 4th, 11th and May 18th. Donations help the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation. The Burn Foundation works to educate the public in burn awareness and prevention and supports two medical facilities, the Burn Center at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and the M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, in the care of burns. In the past nine years, the foundation has awarded more than $185,000 to departments across the state for fire safety and burn prevention programs.
