AGC Glass to Recruit Production Workers in Cobb

'Hire A Hero' Career Expo in Marietta Helps Vets Find Jobs Next Week

The expo will feature a number of employers, educational institutions, and resource agencies that provide assistance to job seekers. The expo will be held Jan. 30 in Marietta.

The Georgia Department of Labor’s (GDOL) will assist Solid Hires and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) with a career expo for veterans and other job seekers Wednesday, Jan. 30. A team of military resume writers from Washington, D.C. will be on hand to help the veterans prepare their resumes. And, a seminar will be conducted on personal branding and social media to help the veterans learn how to get in touch with potential employers. The Tuskegee Airmen, an historical military group, will also participate. Georgia’s Unemployment Rate Rises in December

The Georgia Department of Labor announced that Georgia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 8.6 percent in December, up one-tenth of a percentage point from 8.5 percent in November.

The rate was 9.4 percent in December a year ago. “The unemployment rate ticked up slightly because of a combination of factors,” said State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler. “We had a modest increase in new layoffs, along with a small job loss driven primarily by seasonal layoffs in education. Some Extended Unemployment Benefits End

That's because the state’s jobless rate has declined in the last three months.

Some recipients of federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) in Georgia will lose extended unemployment benefits, as of Saturday. EUC was established in 2008 to aid the long-term unemployed. Georgia will “trigger off” EUC’s Tier 4 unemployment insurance program during the week ending Jan. 12 because the state’s jobless rate has declined in the last three months, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Georgia’s jobless rate was 9.0 percent in September, but declined to 8.7 percent in October and 8.5 percent in November. Federal law mandates that a state in which EUC is provided must have a three-month seasonally adjusted unemployment average of 9.0 percent to remain “on” in …

Cobb Jobless Rate Drops in October

The county has one of the lowest unemployment figures in the metro Atlanta region.

The Cobb unemployment rate remains one of the lowest in metro Atlanta, and it got just a little bit lower in October. According to figures collected by the Georgia Department of Labor, Cobb's rate of jobless workers fell from 7.7 percent to 7.5 percent last month. In the 12-county metro region, the unemployment rate also dropped from 8.3 percent in September to 8.2 in October. The GDOL indicated that around 19,500 jobs were created in metro Atlanta, for a total of 2,353,500 jobs. Metro Athens continued to have the lowest area jobless rate at 6.2 percent, while the state of Georgia declined to 8.7 percent in October, down three-tenths of a percentage point from 9.0 percent in September. Well, normally I would be encouraged by this, but for the first time in decades, the number of people who are still unemployed but not on any "list" is higher than normal. I am happy that it seems like fewer people are losing their jobs, though.   more ›

The Georgia Department of Labor’s (GDOL) Cobb-Cherokee Career Center will help Chattahoochee Technical College recruit unemployed workers and other students to enroll in short-term training classes for a variety of “in-demand” jobs in the technology field.
