The Golden Eagles finish the season at 19-12 overall, improving on the team’s 17-14 record last year, its first as an NJCAA member.
Chattahoochee Tech’s men’s basketball team fell in the final seconds of the first round of the GCAA tournament, losing 57-56 to Albany Tech on the road at nearby Darton College. The Golden Eagles, who took a 56-53 lead after an Asauhn Dixon-Tatum put-back dunk with 30 seconds remaining, lost the lead when ATC hit a 3-pointer to tie with 12 seconds to play. A free throw by Jamorris Gaines of Albany Tech with 1.7 seconds gave the Titans the one-point advantage, and a long CTC inbounds pass was intercepted to end the game. Chattahoochee Tech small forward Tiayra Green was named GCAA women’s All-Second Team over the weekend, earning the honor after a season in which she led the Lady Golden Eagles to a conference tournament berth in the program’s first NJCAA season. Green, a 5-foot-10 sophomore from Riverdale, added another honor to a fantastic season in which she finished second in the GCAA—and 16th nationally —in scoring at 18.7 points per game. She also averaged 5.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game while shooting 42 percent from the field and 71 percent from the free-throw line. Asauhn Dixon-Tatum, Chattahoochee Technical College’s 6-foot-11 sophomore center, earned second-team All-GCAA honors as well as Defensive Player of the Year honors, and freshman point guard Sean Tate was an honorable mention all-region selection. Dixon-Tatum, from Highland, Ind., leads NJCAA Division I with 5.4 blocks per game, 152 total this season, and is fifth in the country in rebounding with 11.8 per game. He is also averaging 10.9 points per contest. Tate, a 5-8 guard from Sequoyah High School in Canton, Ga., is the conference leader in assists per game with 6.6, third in 3-point percentage at 41 percent, third in free-throw percentage at 83 percent, and 13th in the GCAA in scoring with 13.6 points per game. The Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association has named sophomore Asauhn Dixon-Tatum the Player of the Week for Week 7 of the men’s basketball conference season. Dixon-Tatum, a 6-foot-11 center from Highland High School in Highland, Ind., helped lead the Golden Eagles to a 2-1 conference record last week with wins over Georgia Perimeter and Central Georgia Tech. He averaged 12.6 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks per game during the three games. In an important overtime win on the road at Georgia Perimeter, Dixon-Tatum collected 17 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. The Golden Eagles capped off their regular-season GCAA schedule with wins over Central Georgia Tech on Sunday night at the Smyrna Community Center, as the women won a 76-73 thriller and the men cruised to an 86-63 win. The Chattahoochee Tech men’s basketball team picked up a crucial road win at conference-leading Georgia Perimeter on Tuesday, defeating the Jaguars in overtime, 79-73. Thanks to a last-minute comeback in regulation from a 65-58 deficit, the Golden Eagles forced overtime after scoring the next seven points. Chattahoochee Tech’s basketball teams lost GCAA home games to South Georgia Tech on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Southern Polytechnic, dropping both teams’ league records to 5-9. The men’s squad lost for the third time in a row at the final buzzer, as a full-court drive from SGT produced the game-winning lay-up with no time remaining to hand the Golden Eagles a 72-71 loss. The men fell to 15-10 overall. The women’s squad fell 59-44 to the visiting Lady Jets to open the night, as the team dropped to .500 at 12-12 overall. The Lady Golden Eagles, winners of two of their last three heading into the game, dropped a 77-66 decision to the Lady Cougars and the men followed with a 64-58 defeat. The CTC women (10-10, 3-7 GCAA) led big early on, running out to a 22-7 advantage, the biggest lead for either team in the game.
