A Dallas woman has been arrested in connection with a robbery and high-speed chase that forced authorities this afternoon to temporarily shut down Interstate 75 in both directions. About 10:54 a.m. today, 39-year-old Ancely Faye Green walked into the Acworth SunTrust Bank at 1755 Mars Hill Rd., claimed in a note that she had a bomb and demanded money, said Officer Mike Bowman with the Cobb County Police Department. When she received an undisclosed amount of cash, she drove away from the bank in a black vehicle. Officers spotted her and tried to initiate a traffic stop. Green, however, "refused to pull over and attempted to elude officers for several miles," Bowman said. Authorities pursued her southbound on Mars Hill Road to Macland Road; …

GDOT will assist Cobb County to construct a diverging diamond interchange at Interstate 75 and Wade Green Road. A diverging diamond interchange (DDI) is an intersection traffic solution designed to increase capacity, decrease congestion and minimize cost. The DDI is designed to ease the flow of heavy traffic by eliminating a left turn signal and allowing two-directions of traffic to cross the opposite side of the side or cross street at or near the bridge point over the freeway. Cobb County will be responsible for completing and funding the preliminary engineering and right-of-way costs for the project. Once completed, GDOT will fund up to $1 million of construction costs from their operational improvement lump sum. The rest of the $1.625 …

The Marietta woman who helped rescue a dog hit by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 75 asked for public donations to help pay for his recovery. Northeast Cobb Patch talked to Dana Wachsmann in April about her fundraising efforts for Gravitt, a likely stray who was named after the Marietta Police officer who rushed the animal to emergency veterinary care. Several operations, including surgery to reattach the dog's pelvis to its spine, came to an estimated $7,500. Wachsmann contacted Patch this week to report that more than $8,000 in donations has been received for Gravitt's medical care. She also said that Marietta resident Deann Seckinger and her family, which took in the dog on a temporary basis, will be giving Gravitt a permanent home …

But despite the publicity, no owner has claimed Gravitt and the man who stopped in I-75 traffic to carry him to safety still has not been identified. Gravitt is recovering from a fractured pelvis and knee surgery at the Cobb home of Deann Seckinger, one of the people who helped rescue him. Cobb Commission Chairman Tim Lee, Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews, State Senators Chip Rogers and Lindsey Tippins, and State Representative Earl Earhart want to alter the Metro Atlanta Regional Transportation Referendum project list by reducing funding for transit services and putting funding toward the managed reversible lanes on the county’s North/South interstate (also known as the Northwest Corridor I-75/575 P3 initiative). Project TIA-CO-035 calls for enhanced transit services from North Cobb County to the MARTA Arts Center Station and is the most expensive project on Cobb’s list at $689 million.
