Gem & Mineral Society’s 27th Annual Gem, Mineral & Jewelry Show: Enjoy displays of fossils and minerals, free mineral ID classes and demonstrations at the Cobb Civic Center on Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rocks, gemstones, fossils, beads, jewelry and jewelry supplies will be available to view or buy. Celebrated annually on Nov. 15, America Recycles Day is a nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and buy-recycled products. Keep Cobb Beautiful has joined forces with local recycling companies to give residents a chance to recycle clothes, household linen, shoes, electronics, document shredding and latex paint disposal. The event takes place on Nov. 10 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Jim Miller Park and gives residents a chance to clean up their homes just before the holiday season. Items Accepted: "Appliance Amnesty" will also take place 7 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Cobb County Transfer Station, 1897 County Services Parkway, Marietta. It's that time of year again. The 80th annual North Georgia State Fair will begin Thursday and run through Sunday, Sept. 30 at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta. Attracting nearly 300,000 people in years past, the fair is the largest in metro Atlanta and the second largest in Georgia. With midway rides, shows, concerts, pageants, entertainment and food, there is something for everyone. The Georgia Lottery Concert Series for the fair begins at 8 p.m. under the covered area.
