The Glover Park Concert Series; martinis, music and art at the Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art; Brew with a View, "The Wizard of Oz" and "Mamma Mia!" at the Strand; "Legally Blonde" and more are on deck for Marietta this weekend.
1. The Cobb County Classic Rodeo is riding into Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta. Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 24, and Saturday, August 25, the fun will last about two hours each night. Admission at the gate is $15 for adults and $12 for children. Ages five and under are admitted free. 2. The Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art is hosting Martinis & Music on Friday, August 24. Enjoy Martinis, hors d’oeuvres and musical entertainment along with access to all exhibitions from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. 3. The Atlanta Lyric fostered and trained Buster, a Chihuahua mix in need of a home, for "Legally Blonde" in the hopes of helping him find a new home; what they didn't expect was for Buster to be adopted before the show opened.
When Atlanta Lyric Theatre needed a small dog to play the role of Brusier in the musical adaptation of Legally Blonde, the organization turned to Furkids. The role of Bruiser calls for a small, lively dog that goes off to Harvard Law School with Elle Woods, the blonde who’s not so dumb. “The dog has to be charming, affectionate and smart enough to act during his scenes and stay quiet when the action of the play wasn’t on him,” said Brandt Blocker, Artistic Director and General Manager of Atlanta Lyric Theatre, who served as Stage Director. Instead of choosing an animal trained as an actor, Atlanta Lyric Theatre management thought a homeless dog might fit the role while providing a good audience for Furkids and its homeless animals. …

The previously scheduled presentation of Legally Blonde: The Musical at the Strand Theatre will relocate to the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre at the Cobb Civic Center and perform Aug. 10 through 26. In the musical's place, Smoke on the Mountain will be performed at the Strand Theatre from July 26 through Aug. 5. Patrons who have already purchased tickets to Legally Blonde will be contacted and are also encouraged to call The Lyric box office (404-377-9948) to exchange their tickets for the new dates and venue. Saw the play Sunday & loved that you used rescue dogs in the play ... and wow, I have tears in my eyes reading that Buster/Bruiser has a forever home with the terrrific actress who played Elle (also loved her in "Gypsy").
