Marietta has been named one of the top 10 digital cities in the country for the city's use of technology to improve efficiency and provide better services to the public while saving money.

Marietta Council Seeks Input on Ward Boundaries

Redistricting is necessary to comply with the Civil Rights Act after population changes in Marietta.

City Council will hold two public hearings at their regularly scheduled meetings on Nov. 14 and Dec. 12 to receive public feedback on the proposed map.The meetings will be held at 7 p.m. in the Council chamber located on the lobby level of City Hall, 205 Lawrence St. The city will then send a final version of the map to the United States Department of Justice for approval. Maybe I'm looking at the map and the statistics wrong, but it looks like the proposed changes would put a higher percentage of whites in most wards, except for one. It seems like our government employees try to make things as difficult as possible. The map is crazy.   more ›

The Marietta City Council is seeking resumes and letters of interest from individuals interested in serving on the Ethics Committee.

The Marietta City Council is seeking resumes and letters of interest from individuals interested in serving on the Ethics Committee. As the the third member of the Ethics Committee, applicants must be an attorney in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia. City Council will make the appointment to fill the vacancy following personal interviews. Applicants must be residents of the city of Marietta and shall serve a two-year term. The purpose of the Ethics Committee is to review all complaints filed and determine whether there is clear and convincing evidence that a City Council member has violated this ethics code. The Ethics Committee consists of three persons, one appointed by the Mayor, one appointed by the Council and the third …

City Leaders Appoint Citizens to Study Issues

The committee will recommend ideas for quiet railroad crossings, treescapes, trash management, parking and traffic around Marietta Square.

Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin and City Council appointed a committee to recommend ideas for possibly creating one or more quiet railroad crossings in Marietta, "treescapes," trash management and improvement to replace dumpsters downtown, traffic and parking enhancements around the Square and other improvements near the Square. The committee, which will serve for 12 months, held their first meeting Oct. 1 and elected a chairman, vice chairman and secretary and scheduled their upcoming meetings. The city will provide the necessary staff to help the committee with the issues they work on, city manager Bill Bruton said.

Cobb Could See Water Rate Increase

The county is looking for ways to reduce the projected utility hike.

Cobb County is investigating ways to alleviate the projected eight percent increase in water rates that will be passed on to consumers of the Cobb County Water System. Commission Chairman Tim Lee suggested looking at refinancing the Cobb-Marietta Water Authority's debt. With the current low interest rate, this plan could bring significant savings to the county and its water consumers. As reported in the Marietta Daily Journal, there was a transfer of $20 million from the Water System to the general fund to help balance the budget combined with a rate increase. Cobb Gets Mobile Maps for Parcel, Zoning Data

Cobb residents can now obtain parcel and zoning information on the go using smartphones or tablets.

Cobb County Information Services staff has developed new geographic information system mobile maps for obtaining parcel and zoning information using smartphones or tablets. They are available at no cost and compatible with both Android and Apple iOS devices. The GIS mobile maps enable users to access county parcel and zoning data on-the-go. To run the mobile maps, visit the county's GIS Web page at cobbcounty.org/gis and scan the QR codes or launch the maps by clicking on the links. Staff is currently developing additional GIS mobile maps to support staff and residents.
