MC-130J Commando II Heads to Cannon AFB

Aircraft 5714 is the 15th of 27 MC-130Js to be assigned to the Air Force Special Operations Command since initial contract award in 2008.

Aircraft 5714 is the 15th of 27 MC-130Js to be assigned to the Air Force Special Operations Command since initial contract award in 2008. The Commando II supports such missions as in-flight refueling, infiltration/exfiltration and aerial delivery and resupply of special operations forces.

New Gunship-to-Be Takes to the Skies in Marietta

The first MC-130J Commando II that will be converted to a new AC-130J gunship made its first flight in Marietta last week.

The first MC-130J Commando II that will be converted to a new AC-130J gunship made its first flight in Marietta last week.  The MC-130J will have a Precision Strike Package installed, then will fly as a gunship in early 2014.  The total requirement for new AC-130J gunships is 37.

Lockheed Martin delivered an MC-130J Commando II to Cannon Air Force Base, N.M., earlier this week. Aircraft 5694 is the eighth of 11 MC-130Js to be assigned to the 522nd Special Operations Squadron at Cannon. The squadron uses the Commando II on missions such as in-flight refueling, infiltration/exfiltration and aerial delivery and resupply of special operations forces. Maj. Gen. Robert C. Kane, Director, Global Reach Programs, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., accepted delivery of the aircraft. Lockheed Delivers Second Shadow to Kirtland

"The C-130J is the backbone of the mobility fleet and a critical component in Airmen's ability to fly, fight and win," General Edward Rice said.

The second MC-130J Combat Shadow II was delivered to Kirtland Air Force Base, N.M., Tuesday.  General Edward A. Rice, Jr., Commander, Air Education and Training Command, accepted delivery of aircraft 5682. "The C-130J is the backbone of the mobility fleet and a critical component in our Airmen's ability to fly, fight and win," said Rice in a press release. "It is an honor to deliver the newest member of the Kirtland fleet." This is the 2,406th Hercules delivered to date. A MC-130J Combat Shadow II was assigned to U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command in January and oos operated by the 27th Special Operations Wing at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M. The C-130 production line in Marietta is the longest continuously operating military aircraft…
