1. It's time for the Gobble Jog - 5 K and 10 K. On Nov. 22 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., runners will fill Glover Park on Marietta Square for the grand event. Races include: Proceeds will benefit MUST Ministries. 2. "North by Northwest" (1959) (PG) kicks off a weekend of films at the Strand Theatre on Friday, Nov. 23, at 8 p.m. Starring Cary Grant, the film tells the story of Madison Avenue advertising man Roger Thornhill. Thornhill finds himself thrust into the world of spies when he is mistaken for a man by the name of George Kaplan. Foreign spy Philip Vandamm and his henchman Leonard try to eliminate him, but when Thornhill tries to make sense of the case, he is framed for murder. 3. This week's Patch Weekend Spotlight video features Marietta Zombie Walk. The event takes place this Saturday in Marietta Square, and benefits MUST Ministries. The Infestation (gathering) starts at 5 p.m. in Glover Park and the Feeding (Zombie Walk) starts at 6 p.m. Carnival of Doom, in association with Marietta.com, The Strand, Zenith Design Group and Johnnie MacCracken’s Celtic Pub are sponsoring the event. The Cobb Diaper Day Committee will hold its fourth annual collection of diapers for families in need in Glover Park on Marietta Square on Oct. 29. In the past residents have donated 120,000 diapers. Local nonprofit agencies can only dispense diapers four times a year because of limited resources. In these tough economic times, families in need face the facts that: Diapers can be donated at a community-wide diaper collection at 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 29 at Glover Park on the Marietta Square. 1. Friday, Oct. 5: Final First Friday Art Walk: The final Art Walk of the season takes place on Marietta Square from 5 to 9 p.m. 2. Saturday, Oct. 6: 19th annual Habitat Road Race—5K, 1 mile and Tot Trot: The proceeds from the race will be used to build Mt. Bethel’s 32nd Habitat for Humanity house. The post race celebration will include refreshments, a dj, food, vendor exhibits, door prizes and fun for kids. The race starts at 8 a.m.; admission is $20 by Oct. 3 and $25 after Oct. 3.

Almost 50 people arrived at MUST Ministries on Sept. 13 to learn skills that will help them get a job. MUST hosted the “Step Up Your Game” event in conjunction with other non-profits in the area, including Nobis Works, Goodwill, Center for Family Resources and Cobb Works. The collaborative event was the second conference this group has coordinated. The one-day seminar emphasizes interview skills, making a good first impression, meetings with hiring professionals and maintaining a job. 1. Keep Cobb Beautiful, Keep Smyrna Beautiful and Keep Marietta Beautiful are joining forces to allow Cobb residents to dispose of unwanted documents by shredding them on Saturday. From 9 a.m. to noon, there will be three locations at which residents may have their documents shredded for free. Residents may bring up to 100 pounds of paper to be shredded. The Cobb County Public Library System is offering teens an opportunity to fight hunger in Cobb County while having fun with its Hunger Games Challenge. The event will be held on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m. at the Central Library. Middle and high school students are encouraged to attend, and registration is required. The challenge will be based on the popular Hunger Games book and movie, which tells the story of a post-apocalyptic society with rampant hunger, where teens fought to save their lives and for food for their district. At the event, teens will be split into teams (like the districts from the novel) and will earn points based on challenges. Teens are encouraged to bring food items to earn points for their team. The Summer Lunches Program at MUST Ministries has just ended, and volunteers handed out a total of 189,648 lunches to needy children this summer—a 34 percent increase from last year. MUST started the Summer Lunch Program in 1995 in Cobb and Cherokee Counties in an effort to fight child hunger. In 2011, MUST Volunteers delivered 103,000 lunches to hungry children in Cobb and Cherokee, and the program was expanded to Douglas, Paulding, North Fulton and Gwinnett communities this year.

Community Veterinary Care’s mobile unit partnered with MUST Ministries this week to offer medical services for animals belonging to MUST clients. For weeks, MUST has been promoting the event and giving clients an opportunity to make an appointment. For many families struggling to make ends meet, pet healthcare can be a low priority. Dr. David Wolf, veterinarian and owner of the community vet service, provides check ups, heart medicine samples, pregnancy exams and more. Dr. Wolf explained that this community effort is his ministry to others. He is forming partnerships in the Cobb County area to help the animals belonging to people in need.
