Students, faculty and alumni of Life and Southern Polytechnic State universities, residents, and business and property owners are invited to comment on the draft plan for the Marietta University Enhancement Livable Centers Initiative study area. Attendees will have an opportunity to review recommendations for transportation and connectivity improvements, land use changes, a multi-use trail and a new university center. The purpose of the study is to create a redevelopment plan for Cobb Parkway and South Marietta Parkway, increase visibility of Life and Southern Polytechnic State universities, and better connect the universities with the surrounding community. Eleven Marietta City Schools (MCS) students are among the system winners of the 2012-2013 Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition. The Marietta Center for Advanced Academics (MCAA) and the Bagwell College of Education at Kennesaw State University (KSU), recently signed an education partnership through the Cobb Chamber Partners in Education program. West Side Elementary School and Library Media Specialist Sherri Kenworthy are recipients of the 2012 Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) Exceptional Library Media Program honor. Marietta City Schools classes begin at all schools district-wide Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012. Pre-registration dates/times, pre-opening and open house activities dates/times vary district-wide. The MCS Transportation Department hosts their annual "Kindergarten Kruise" Tuesday, Aug. 7 for elementary students (regular and special education routes) and their parents. Four Marietta City Schools students are among the top finishers in the 2011-2012 Georgia PTA annual Reflections cultural arts program.
