Marietta City Schools Launch New Strategic Plan Video

The video provides an overview of the strategic plan mission, vision and goals that shape the school district’s activities during the next three years, and highlights targeted strategies to achieve the plan’s key priorities.

Marietta, Cobb Schools Top State Average in New Achievement Test

Marietta City and Cobb County Schools fared well in the College and Career Ready Performance Index, which replaces Adequate Yearly Progress reports.

The first test of Georgia's alternative to No Child Left Behind has yielded fairly good marks for both the Cobb County School District and Marietta City Schools. According to the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), students at the elementary, middle and high school levels of both public school systems outpaced the state average on a wide-ranging accountability spectrum. The index grades each school in the state on a 100-point scale, measuring achievement (70 points) and tracking progress points (15 points) and achievement gap points (15 points). Cobb schools averaged a score of 85.4 at the elementary school level, 87.1 for middle schools and 86.3 for high schools. In Marietta, the elementary school average score was 86.6 …

MHS Music Educator Runner-Up Georgia Teacher of the Year

David DuBose, a music teacher at Marietta High School, Director of Bands and MHS Arts Department Chair, and the Marietta City Schools’ Teacher of the Year for 2012-13, was named runner-up for 2014 Georgia Teacher of the Year honor.

Sawyer Road Elementary Awarded $1,500 Kroger 'Go for the Gold' Grant

Sawyer Road Elementary is the latest recipient of a $1,500 grant from Kroger’s Atlanta Division as part of its 2012-2013 Earning Plus Learning program.

Sawyer Road Elementary is the latest recipient of a $1,500 grant from Kroger’s Atlanta Division as part of its 2012-2013 Earning Plus Learning program. The annual contest invited schools to creatively describe their efforts to “Go for the Gold” throughout the school year in terms of diversity, nutrition, exercise, fair play and helping others. Three Marietta Middle School students, Eric Finderup, Andrew Levine and Hrithik Saride, have earned state level recognition in the annual Duke University Talent Identification Program.

Three Marietta Middle School (MMS) students, Eric Finderup, Andrew Levine and Hrithik Saride, have earned state level recognition in the annual Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP). Each student will be recognized at the Duke TIP State Award Ceremony Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Southern Polytechnic State University. “A student who scores exceptionally well on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills® (ITBS®) is eligible to participate in the Duke TIP 7th Grade Talent Search,” said Dr. Tim Jones, MMS principal. “Students who participate are then invited to take the ACT or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT®). Kroger to Donate $9,000 to Marietta City Schools

Kroger’s Atlanta Division will donate a total of $9,000 in grants to Marietta City Schools, including A.L. Burruss Elementary, Westside Elementary School and Marietta Middle School.

Kroger’s Atlanta Division – which includes Georgia, South Carolina, Eastern Tennessee and Northern Alabama – will donate a total of $9,000 in grants to three Marietta City Schools as part of its 2012-2013 “Earning Plus Learning” program. Zaxby’s Marietta Literacy Fundraiser Thursday

Eat at Zaxby’s Marietta Thursday evening and 10 percent of total sales during fundraiser night go toward Marietta Reads!

Marietta City Schools (MCS) and Zaxby’s Restaurant are teaming up to raise funds to benefit the district’s Marietta Reads! literacy initiative. The Marietta Reads! Fundraiser night at Zaxby’s Marietta, located at 1347 Church Street Ext., is Thursday, April 25 from 5 - 8 p.m. Eat at Zaxby’s Marietta Thursday evening and 10 percent of total sales during fundraiser night go toward Marietta Reads! Marietta Reads! is a citywide effort to foster reading and literacy. The purpose of this initiative is to encourage Marietta City School students to read more, read better and read widely.
