Marietta High School (MHS) recently earned approval from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to offer the new International Baccalaureate Career-related Certificate (IBCC). For the fourth consecutive year, U.S.News & World Report's annual list of the best high schools in the country, named Marietta High School (MHS) one of the best high schools in the nation. Eleven Marietta City Schools (MCS) students are among the system winners of the 2012-2013 Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition. The purpose of the Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context to celebrate their writing successes, and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics. “Each year we look forward to naming the student winners of the annual Young Georgia Authors writing contest. Whitlock Avenue near Marietta High School was closed Monday morning due to a gas leak. The road was also closed on Friday in the same area due to another gas leak.
Whitlock Avenue was closed on Monday due to a gas leak that occurred just before 10:30 a.m., according to Marietta Police. A construction crew struck and ruptured a gas main on Whitlock Avenue near Marietta High School. This is the second gas leak to hit the area in as many work days. Emergency crews shut down Whitlock Avenue from Burnt Hickory Road to Carriage Oaks Drive in both directions on Monday. Crews repaired Monday's leak before noon. On Friday, Whitlock Avenue was shut down in the same area due to construction work and a gas leak.
