The owner of a West Cobb cupcake shop defeated three other masters of the sweet treats to win the episode of the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars that aired Sunday. Being a contestant on the show “was the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Patricia Katopes, the owner of Patty Cakes Cupcakes on Due West Road, told the Marietta Daily Journal. “It was very intense. It was a surreal experience.” Katopes, who earned the title of Miss Atlanta in 1989, held a viewing party for the show Sunday featuring 700 of her cupcakes, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Earlier this year, Mamie Doyle, owner of Miss Mamie’s on the Marietta Square, won Cupcake Wars. Appearing on Food Network is the most exciting thing that has ever happened in my life, and I …

The part-owner of the cupcake shop on the Marietta Square sat down to talk with Marietta Patch.
Cupcakes shops seem to be popping up, and in the Marietta Square, employees at Miss Mamie's Cupcakes are keeping busy. When I stopped by to talk with part-owner Mamie Doyle one day around 3:30 p.m., the shop that won the Food Network's Cupcake Wars, was busy with customers. After graduting from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Atlanta, Doyle interned at the bakery, which then had a different name. A few months later, she bought the business. Doyle sat down with Marietta Patch to talk about her business and about cupcakes in general. Marietta Patch: Do your flavors rotate? Doyle: Yes. In the fall, we'll have Sweet Potato, Pumpkin, Caramel, Spice Apple. MP: What is your best selling flavor? Doyle: Our best selling flavor is Stout …

Marietta Interior Designer Lori May went to battle against two other designers on Friday's HGTV episode and came out victorious.
A Marietta interior designer came out on top of Friday's Design Wars. "I didn't expect it," Lori May said of winning. "It just felt so good to be a part of the show and to work with all these other designers who had so much more experience than me." May competed against designers Allison Harper and Jason Dunn on the April 20 HGTV episode. The three designers each had the opportunity to redo a Kennesaw family's kitchen and guest bedroom. The family chose the designer they liked best and that designer, May, got to decorate the family's living room. "I felt honored they chose me to do their space," May said. "It was a great experience, crazy but great." May said she had roughly a week to do the third room. "We knew what would happen if we won…

I have a sweet tooth. There's no denying it. Since I moved to Marietta and began to spend most of my days on the Square, that sweet tooth has experienced an explosion of delights. Miss Mamie's Cupcakes, Cakes and Such. I don't order cupcakes when I'm out. I just don't do it. They have a tendency to send me straight into sugar overload and taste like they've come out of a plastic bag from the corner discount store. Miss Mamie's has made me rethink my attitude toward cupcakes at restaurants and bakeries. In short, they were amazing. Banana Peanut Butter, Carrot, Cheesecake, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Devil's Food, Guinness, Margarita, Mocha Caramel, Red Velvet, Reeses, Rocky Road, S'more, Strawberry, White Chocolate and Yellow—there is a nice …
