Commencement exercises for Osborne High School in Marietta can be seen live and DVD replays can be ordered on the Cobb County School District website.

The Cobb County School District is providing free live-streaming of Cobb high school graduations, which begin Thursday and conclude Saturday.  DVD copies of each school's graduation ceremony also will be available for sale. Osborne JROTC Places First in Competition

Osborne cadets faced off against JROTC teams from Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to earn the top spot.

The Osborne High School Army JROTC placed first in the regional JROTC Academic Leadership Bowl for an unprecedented fifth consecutive year. The Academic Leadership Bowl challenges cadets to demonstrate strengths in an academic quiz competition and to display principles of leadership and citizenship in scenario-based questions. Osborne cadets Kaleb Parham, Sanjuanta Trevino, Liliana Esquivel, Erik Rodriguez, Eduardo Trujillo and Wilver Mendoza faced off against JROTC teams from Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to earn the top spot. The team will travel to Washington, DC in June for the National Championships.

Cobb High Schools Get Grants for AP Teacher Training

Each of Cobb County’s 16 high schools received $1,400 grant awards from the Georgia Department of Education to train teachers for Advanced Placement instruction.

Each of Cobb County’s 16 high schools received $1,400 grant awards from the Georgia Department of Education to train teachers for Advanced Placement instruction. Teachers from 207 Georgia schools will participate in the 2012 AP Summer Institutes, which include 30 plus hours of subject-specific professional development. AP courses help better prepare students for post-secondary studies. In February, the state recognized 15 Cobb schools among its 2012 AP Honor Schools for overall achievement on AP tests and for increasing access to AP coursework to more students.

Safe, Sober Prom Season

Marietta High School will host their prom on April 14, and Osborne High School will hold their prom on April 20 at the Turner Field 755 Club.

Prom season is upon us—a time of celebration for teenagers and their families. Many proms and parties are scheduled throughout March, April and May. Marietta High School will host their prom on April 14, and Osborne High School will hold their prom on April 20 at the Turner Field 755 Club. But while prom is a time of celebration, it is also a time of increased underage drinking. Osborne Students Offer Free Help Filing Taxes

The Osborne High School Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Center helped prepare more than 200 tax returns in 2011.

The April 17 tax deadline can be a little less stressful with free assistance from the Osborne High School Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Center. In 2011, the Osborne High center helped prepare more than 200 tax returns, yielding refunds totaling over $200,000. The tax progam launched about 11 years ago to help lower-paid individuals file their taxes. Check out a video of students getting to work on this year's taxes at CNN. Teacher Charged with Drug Possession

Osborne High School teacher Aaron Foster was arrested Tuesday and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

A 31-year-old Osborne High School teacher was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to an incident report obtained by Patch. According to the report, Aaron Foster of Kennesaw was approached by Kennesaw police when he was observed standing outside of 1619 Collins Rd. at about 7:40 a.m. All the businesses at the location were closed, so police decided to investigate, the report says. As police approached the parking lot, Foster entered his SUV, threw something in the back and shut the rear hatch door, the report states. According to the report, the officer "smelled the strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from him." Foster initially told police that he was at the location collecting his …
